Chase Sexton: “it’s in my best interest to get ready for SMX and come in at 100%”

Following his odd crash and end to his second moto at Saturday’s Ironman National, Chase Sexton has announced he will miss the final two rounds of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship. At Ironman Raceway, the #1 charged from an early race tip over to come back and still win the first moto, fending off Jett Lawrence in the process as he ran down Eli Tomac and Hunter Lawrence out front. Then in the second moto, he had the wild crash—and walk back to the pits—that everyone has been talking about ever since. His 1-40 finishes landed tenth overall.

Sun Aug 10 Hunter Lawrence, Haiden Deegan Victorious at Ironman Raceway This evening, Sexton has posted on Instagram announcing he is out for the final two rounds of Pro Motocross. The Red Bull KTM rider said he wants to come into the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) Playoffs "at 100 percent."
The Illinois native went into the SMX Playoffs both in 2023 and 2024 with the points lead, finishing third in ’23 and seventh in ’24, actually crashing out of both finales.
Sexton (510 points) currently sits third in the 450SMX standings, although he will more than likely lose a position to Jett Lawrence by the end of Saturday's Unadilla National. It is possible Malcolm Stewart, who sits 51 points behind Sexton, and Hunter Lawrence, who sits down 83 points from Sexton, could both pass him by the end of the Budds Creek National Pro Motocross finale. With Tomac 106 points behind him, it appears the worst Sexton could enter the SMX Playoffs is sixth, since Aaron Plessinger (459 points) will not pass him since the #7 is out for the final two rounds of Pro Motocross as well. “Good day going at Ironman until it wasn’t, going 1-DNF on the day 🥲 brake malfunction second moto was out of mine and @jadedungey control and for me I was just a passenger at that point and I tried all I could do to save it. With that being said I’m still encouraged by my riding and am happy with how it was going up until that point.
As far as my body goes my right shoulder is weak from the crash and am getting it looked at this week. With that being said it’s in my best interest to get ready for SMX and come in at 100%. Just want to say thank you to the fans for always having my back and I can’t wait to see y’all in charlotte 🫶🏻”
