Pay Dirt: The Story of Supercross

Malibu, CA, Oct. 15, 2024, For Immediate Release.
Supercross - the most under appreciated, demanding, dramatic sport on the planet.  Narrated by Josh Brolin, this film is not a history, but captures the essence of the sport - where passion meets commitment in a rider's quest for a championship.

Unfolding in a theme-driven, cinematic style, multi Emmy-winning filmmaker Paul Taublieb explains, “Pay Dirt” combines state-of-the-art cinematography with rare archival footage, all brought to life with in-depth interviews, but this is not a linear history of the sport.

The film makes its world debut on Sat., Oct. 19th, at the Newport Beach Film Festival (@newportbeachfilmfest) at 3:30 PM at the recently refurbished Lido Theater. Tickets are available HERE

Featured in this full-length documentary are some of the greatest dirt bike riders to ever throw a leg over a bike, including Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Carmichael, Bob Hannah, and Ricky Johnson, and future stars like Haiden Deegan. But it also tells the story of Jimmy Button’s incredible - and inspiring - physical comeback from a near catastrophic crash, offers an in-depth look at how the dirt is sculptured like art to create the stage where the sports theater of Supercross takes place, a look at the struggles of being an independent privateer racing against the odds, and also includes an interview with the man credited with creating Supercross, Mike Goodwin, who is now serving life in prison without the possibility of parole for the double murder of his former partner and his wife, Mickey and Trudy Thompson.

“Pay Dirt” would not have been possible without the support of Monster Energy and Feld Entertainment. Mitch Covington, Senior Vice President of Sports for Monster Energy commented, “Monster Energy is excited to be a part of Pay Dirt, a documentary that dives deep into the electrifying world of Supercross. This film does an incredible job of capturing the raw energy and intensity of our top athletes in the sport while offering an authentic glimpse into the challenges and triumphs of Supercross, making it accessible and thrilling for all audiences.”

After the world premiere The film will be widely available in theaters across the country in January 2025, and to sign up for updates and locate a theater near you, please go to www.paydirtmovie.com, and for ongoing updates and photos from the premiere, please visit our social media sites: Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and X.
