Carson Mumford Suffered Compound Break in Right Leg at SMX Playoff 2
Carson Mumford has provided an update after his leg injury at the SMX Playoff 2 round of the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX). In the first qualifying unseeded 250SMX session, Mumford had a crash in the first rhythm section, a section that was tricky for riders in both classes all day long. In the incident, he did suffer a compound break to his right leg, ending his day early. Mumford, who joined the Firepower Honda team in June, finished 18-16 for 17th at SMX Playoff 1. While his 17th overall does not stand out on paper, Mumford looked comfortable and fast, topping sessions in free practice and unseeded 250SMX qualifying. He took to Instagram for an update Saturday afternoon.

“Man where do I even start. Had a stupid crash in practice today and compounded my right leg. I’ve been riding so dang good lately this is seriously heart crushing. That track was really really weirdly built to me but it is what it is you’re not going to like every track you ride. I have surgery scheduled for this afternoon, hoping for the best and to get out of the hospital in a few days.”
On Sunday, Mumford posted the following update:
“Out of surgery feeling a lot better today! I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a very brutal last 24 hours but looking forward to getting better. Plan is to stay in TX a couple more days before getting on a plane an heading back to California to do therapy and rest for a few weeks. Thank you to everyone that called/texted and reached out to me and my family. It felt like time was moving in slow motion and getting to talk to people helped keep my mind off things!”
