The SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) Playoffs kick off this weekend. While the second round and the third/final round will be raced at new venues our paddock has not competed at yet before, we are first heading back to zMAX Dragway at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina, for this weekend's first round. With that in mind, we wound up some videos from last year's inaugural SMX race in order to get ready for this year's event and SMX Playoffs. Remember, this all-new hybrid format combining supercross and motocross elements was truly unpredictable for riders and teams until the first race last year. This go round, riders and teams will be more prepared and know what to expect.
Chase Sexton dominated the two 450SMX motos aboard his Honda CRF450R as Ken Roczen and Dylan Ferrandis rounded out the overall podium and Jo Shimoda, Haiden Deegan, Tom Vialle, Ryder DiFrancesco, Jordon Smith, Seth Hammaker, Levi Kitchen, Hunter Lawrence, Justin Cooper, and more battled it out in the 250SMX Class. Shimoda took the 250SMX overall win as Vialle and Deegan rounded out the overall podium, but the 250SMX Class saw a lot of shuffling in results for the second moto. DiFrancesco earned the first moto podium of his young career as European Vialle did really well just a few months removed from his first season of Monster Energy AMA Supercross.
Tune into this weekend's kickoff for the 2024 SuperMotocross World Championship (TV/streaming schedule below) and in the meantime, relive the 2023 event.
