Yamaha announced today that they have reached a deal with Arnaud Tonus that will see him stay with the Wilvo Yamaha team through 2019.
A native of Switzerland, Tonus enjoyed a successful career in MX2 before signing with Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki prior to the 2015 season. While he had some success in the U.S. an illness limited him to just one round of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross in 2015. The following year he broke his collarbone in supercross and was limited to just four rounds.
In his first year in the MXGP Class, Tonus, 25, is 10th in points with one moto podium on the season.
"I am really happy to sign with Yamaha. It was my number one choice since joining with Louis and the team at Wilvo,” he said in a statement. “I have a really good relationship with them and I know how hard they work for me to be happy on the team, I am grateful for that. It made my decision to stay with Yamaha really easy, and I just wanted to move forward with them. On top of that, I have tried the 2018 YZ450F and I can honestly say it's a really good bike and I can see a really solid future."
