Matterley Basin to Replace Glen Helen for 2017 Motocross of Nations
A day after announcing that Glen Helen Raceway would no longer hold the 2017 Motocross of Nations, citing lack of attendance at the two USGPs held at the Southern California track in 2015 and 2016, Youthstream, the promoters of the FIM World Motocross Championship, have awarded the 2017 event to Matterley Basin located in Great Britain.
The track, located in Winchester, was created in 2006 and held their first Motocross of Nations later that year. It has been a regular fixture on the Grand Prix calendar since, hosting the Great Britain Grand Prix on a number of occasions.
The track is promoted by Steve Dixon, a name that should sound familiar, as he's also owner of the Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki team, which featured Tommy Searle (MXGP) and Vsevolod Brylyakov (MX2) in 2016.
In the announcement made this morning, Youthstream said they are “exploring possibilities” for the event to be held in the United States in 2019. Possible venues have not been announced.
