Injuries Take Toll on GEICO Honda; Updates on Craig, Charboneau, Smith and Bogle

GEICO Honda’s Christian Craig has undergone successful surgery to repair a fractured tibia and fibula sustained at Round 2 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at Glen Helen on Saturday, the team announced today.
Craig sustained the injury after coming together with his GEICO Honda teammate Jordon Smith in the first 250 moto.
“In a lot of pain but surgery went good and on the road to recovery,” Craig wrote on Instagram. “Thank you to everyone for all the messages it means a lot! Bummed all this happened but I will be back stronger that's for sure!”
There is no timetable on Craig’s return.
According to team manager Mike LaRocco, Smith “got a really large contusion on his back from when him and Craig came together” and wasn’t able to finish the second 250 moto.
The team was dealt another blow in the second 250 moto when rookie Tristan Charboneau crashed and sustained a possible fractured collarbone.
“He [Charboneau] went down just before three laps to go and shouldered into the wall part of the rhythm lane,” said LaRocco. “So he possibly fractured his collarbone. We’ll have to wait and see how that turns out. And [RJ] Hampshire, at one point I believe did an off-track into the fence! So we just had a bad day.”
We will have more on Charboneau’s condition as more information becomes available.
The team’s 450 rider, Justin Bogle, was also unable to complete the second moto. Bogle cut his hand in a non-racing accident earlier in the week and had to have stitches put in.
“Bogle came in with some stitches in his hand and he found that he couldn’t hang on between moto one and moto two so he didn’t even ride the second moto,” said LaRocco. “So all the way around we just had one of those days that we’d like to forget.”
