Motul Pirelli Suzuki’s Matt Moss has topped the opening day of practice during Hidden Valley Raceway’s opening round of the Terex Australian Supercross Championships in Darwin.

Moss’ fastest lap of 1m13.198 came in session two on a hot and humid day of practice, which featured two 15-minute sessions before a 10-minute session concluded Friday’s on-track action.

“My bike feels good and the track’s pretty good – they’re just trying to get more water into it,” Moss explained. “All in all though it was good.”

American Weston Peick (Carlton Dry Honda Racing) jumped up to second fastest late in proceedings, topping the third session with his 1m13.314. Completing the top three was Campbell Mining Suzuki’s Jake Moss, just over a second off the pace of twin brother Matt.

CDR Yamaha’s Lawson Bopping debuted the 2014 YZ450F on top in practice session one, a time that would cement him fourth place overall. Open class rookie Kirk Gibbs (Motorex KTM) rounded out the top five ahead of Jay Marmont (Monster Energy Kawasaki and Josh Hill (InsureMyRide/Hart and Huntington/Suzuki).

In the SX-Lites it was another new MX Nationals champion who proved fastest as Luke Styke (Serco Yamaha) led the way with a 1m17.207 lap, half a second ahead of returning Queenslander Brenden Harrison (Choice Motorsport KTM).

Last year’s Under 19s champion Kale Makeham (Tune Tech Racing KTM) was a solid third fastest, from Taylor Potter (Honda) and Luke Arbon (Serco Yamaha).
