Bowers, Ames Return to Babbit's
AURORA, Ill. – Arguably the most formidable team in AMSOIL Arenacross, featuring Ricky Carmichael’s Road to Supercross, the Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki team has set the standard in recent years, winning four consecutive titles. For the upcoming 2014 season, reigning three-time champion Tyler Bowers will once again lead the squad into action, flanked by close friend Zach Ames who returns for his second year with the team.
In four full seasons of AMSOIL Arenacross competition Bowers has captured three consecutive titles and amassed 53 career victories, placing fourth on the all-time wins list. Facing a brand new racing format last season in AMSOIL Arenacross – which was highlighted by two main events during each round of action and a playoff-inspired Race to the Championship – Bowers still rose to the occasion more often than not, and even overcame a broken collarbone to grab a total of 20 main event wins en route to the title.
Bowers’ incredible AMSOIL Arenacross season laid the groundwork for even greater success in Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, where he claimed an impressive victory in the final race of the Eastern Regional 250SX Class Championship. Bowers’ stellar substitute stint with the famed Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team vaulted him into the sport’s spotlight and also showcased the immense talent of the riders in AMSOIL Arenacross.
“The 2013 season was definitely the most memorable of my career,” said Bowers. “I had to deal with a little bit of everything last year, both bad and good, and we managed to come out of it all with our third consecutive AMSOIL Arenacross title and a supercross win. I’m not exactly sure how I even begin to try and top that for the 2014 season, but I’m looking forward to defending my crown and reasserting myself and Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki as the rider and team to beat.”
The success Bowers has achieved in his time with Team Babbitt’s has also made him a mentor to his returning teammate Ames. The duo spends considerable time together both on and off the track and their friendship is evident in the amount of success each rider was able to achieve last season, with Ames claiming a pair of overall victories of his own and playing a significant role in the battle for the championship. With a full season of competition aboard the Babbitt’s Kawasaki under his belt, Ames’ expectations are even greater and his confidence is higher than ever.
“It was an incredible opportunity to race for Babbitt’s last season and see how they do things. It’s no wonder why they’ve been so successful,” said Ames. “I learned a lot racing alongside Tyler and I feel like I made huge strides as a rider last season. Now I’m more prepared than ever and I look forward to challenging the champ in 2014.”
With four AMSOIL Arenacross championships to its credit the past success of the team and the veteran status of its pair of riders make Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki the team to beat heading into the 2014 AMSOIL Arenacross season. While the gap between them and the rest of the field continues to get smaller with each passing season, the team’s leadership helps its riders push the envelope even more in pursuit of continued success.
“I think we have the most talented lineup in AMSOIL Arenacross right now,” said Babbitt’s Team Manager Denny Bartz. “Tyler and Zach both had tremendous seasons last year and we are using all of that success to our advantage heading into the 2014 season. We know the field is going to be gunning for us, but we’re confident in our program and are looking forward to another great year.”
The Babbitt’s team will kick off their quest for a fourth championship when the first round of the series kicks off in Worcester, Mass. On January 3, 2014. Tickets and up-to-date information on AMSOIL Arenacross can be found at www.Arenacross.com.
