Tye Simmonds to Ride Australasian SX
September 29, 2011, 10:25am
JDR Motorex KTM is pleased to announce that Tye Simmonds will contest the 2011 Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, with the team aboard a 450 SX-F.
Simmonds, 19, will make his first appearance of the year in Australia when the Super X season commences in Melbourne on 22 October, fresh back from a successful rookie season in the United States.
After scoring multiple podium placings in recent seasons and finishing fourth in the Pro Open title chase last year, Simmonds is excited to return for the series.
“It’s good to be home, really nice to be back with family and friends in Australia,” Simmonds said. “Super X is coming up so since it’s five rounds back-to-back we decided to race the series to finish out the year. It’s short and sharp, so it should be fun.”
Simmonds was part of JDR Motorsports’ U.S-based team in 2011, racing to top 10 race results in the AMA Supercross and Motocross Championships during the season. With the outdoors only just recently concluding, Simmonds will enter Super X with momentum on his side.
“Even though it was motocross, it was racing and any time on the bike is good,” Simmonds added. “I’ve had two weeks off since then and that’s been good, so now I’ll get serious and start riding again.”
Simmonds will join former Australian Supercross Champion Daniel Reardon aboard the 450 SX-F for Super X, while Ryan Marmont will campaign the 350 SX-F in the Pro Open category.
JDR Motorex KTM’s Pro Lites team will consist of multiple-time national champion Matt Moss, Brenden Harrison and Josh Cachia, who is currently in the USA training and preparing for Super X. All three will pilot the defending champion 250 SX-F.
The 2011 Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, will commence at Melbourne Knights Stadium in Victoria on 22 October before being contested over five consecutive weekends.
