Ferris Takes Championship Lead
May 9, 2011 10:05am
After another great weekend’s racing, Monster Energy Kawasaki rider, Dean Ferris, has moved back into the lead of the Australian National Motocross Championship. This 4th round of the championship also marks the 3rd podium in a row for the talented young Australian.
The day didn’t start that well for Ferris who stalled his bike as the gate dropped for moto 1, leaving the frustrated Australian fighting back from last place. Ultimately Ferris fought back to 10th position by the end of the very short moto.
Moto 2 was a very good start for Ferris, as he exited turn one on the back wheel of team-mate Billy Mackenzie. Corner after corner the Kawasaki duo battled it out, eventually crossing the just 1 second apart.
Moto 3 would see another solid start for the 111 machine, with Ferris heading into lap one in 2nd position yet again. This time out Ferris wasted no time in getting into the lead, and despite pressure from ex GP star Josh Coppins, went on to take the race win.
The 4th and final race of the day would see a stellar battle up front as yet again the Kawasaki duo ruled the roost. At the end of an exciting race it was Billy Mac who took the victory with Dean Ferris less than one second behind!
With another great result Dean Ferris moves back in to the lead of the championship, with the ‘Red Plate’ bolted firmly to the front of his machine.
An excited Dean Ferris says, “I stalled the bike in the first race but once I got my starts dialled I was top two off the start and finished top two. It’s great to have the Red Plate back on the bike. I’m so fortunate to have the help of Monster Energy Kawasaki throughout the day. I’m stoked with the bike. Billy and I were really having a good flow. It was a really good day and I’m excited to be on the podium for the third round in a row.”
