Dungey and Short make it a 1-2 finish for Yoshimura at Washougal National
Chino, Calif. – Ryan Dungey and Andrew Short topped the podium in both motos at Saturday's Washougal National, making it another 1-2 finish for Yoshimura. Both riders have been dominating the series aboard their Yoshimura powered machines, with Dungey claiming his seventh consecutive overall win in Washougal, and Short collecting the holeshot in both motos.
At the drop of the gate in moto one, it was Short who claimed the holeshot as the pack headed into turn one. His holeshot translated into an early lead as he let loose the power of his Yoshimura prepared Honda CRF450R. As the moto progressed, Dungey and his Yoshimura powered Suzuki RM-Z450 managed to catch up to Short, and eventually passed him for the lead. Dungey quickly put a gap between himself and second place, and checked out for the rest of the moto for his first win of the day.
It was a similar story in the second moto, as Andrew Short added yet another holeshot to his already impressive collection. Dungey also launched to a solid start in moto two, and quickly began making his move up to the lead. Once he made the pass for the lead, Dungey got on the gas and opened another sizeable lead between himself and Short. At the finish, Dungey was seventeen seconds ahead of the competition. His victory at Washougal marks his seventh consecutive overall win, and puts him just two wins away from tying Ricky Carmichael's record of nine wins in his rookie season.
Short's teammate and motocross veteran Kevin Windham also put in some fast laps while filling in for the injured Davi Millsaps. Windham went 9-9 in his respective motos, and took 7th overall. Dungey's teammate Matt Moss ran into trouble in his first moto, taking 35th due to a crash, but he came back in a big way in the second moto to take 14th.
