The Spring Classic is Heading to Sweet Home Alabama
RPM Sports, the McWilliams family and WB Ranch announced today that the 2011 Spring Classic will be held at the picturesque MillCreek Mx Park, located in Pell City, Alabama. The Spring Classic has long been the flagship event for the start of the amateur national motocross calendar, where aspiring racers from all corners of the country gather in effort to stake their place amongst future stars of tomorrow. The Spring Classic also acts as the annual platform for the industry to showcase all of their new products and while scouting amongst a diverse talent pool of riders that define what is to be expected throughout the remainder of the year.
MillCreek Mx Park has a decade of successful history hosting and managing exciting events, including Loretta Lynn Area Qualifiers, Regional’s, ATVA Nationals, Pro Am events and many other recognized motocross events. Allen McWilliams said, "We feel very fortunate to have acquired the rights to this important racing event. The fact that we have managed the event for the last two years at the Lake Whitney track has allowed for a smooth transition. The move to MillCreek Mx Park will provide riders and their families with superior amenities and the added convenience of being close to outside activities, airports, hotels, shopping malls and restaurants. My family and I are very excited about the re-location of the Spring Classic and the upcoming improvements at MillCreek in preparation for this very prestigious event."
The move of this event to MillCreek Mx Park brings to an end a long history of motocross racing at Lake Whitney, dating back to 1972. The move also brings new life to the amateur national calendar and this is being considered a very positive venture as our sport continues to grow towards more professional platforms that will better prepare our athletes in their transition into professional careers.
Bruce Whitehead, the owner of WB Ranch, indicated, "It is with some sadness that we make this announcement. We know that the Whitney track holds a special place in the hearts of thousands of motocross enthusiasts. However, the ranch has been going in a different direction for several years and motocross is simply not complimentary with other activities at the ranch. We have an excellent relationship with the McWilliams family, and we know that under their stewardship the legacy of this major event can be continued and enhanced."
In short, in time comes change and that is where are today. Our goal from day one at RPM has been to preserve the history and enhance the future of the Spring Classic and welcome you all in sharing with our vision.
Make your plans now to attend the opening of the 2011 amateur motocross calendar at MillCreek MX Park on March 7-14, 2011 and be a part of the 2011 Spring Classic.
