Jake Weimer Wins Hard Charger Award In Lakewood
MORGANTOWN, W.V. (July 2, 2010) - After winning last year's Thunder Valley National in Lakewood, Colorado, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Jake Weimer was hoping the high-elevation track would help him rebound in what has been a very tough 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship campaign. Instead, this year's Colorado race, the Toyota Trucks National, ended up handing Weimer his worst result of the season.
But it wasn't from lack of trying. Crashes in both motos held the Idaho native back, but he never gave up and never quit fighting. With an incredible 36th to 10th charge in the first 250 Class moto, Weimer earned the Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award in Colorado. The weekly RC Hard Charger Award is given to the rider who passes the most riders in any given moto during the weekend.
Weimer went down in a second-turn pileup in the first 250 moto. Other contenders like GEICO Powersports Honda's Justin Barcia went down in the same crash, leading to a race-within-a-race between the duo. Barcia also put in a strong effort, climbing from 34th to 16th. Honda of Troy's Les Smith charged from 32nd to 19th. But perhaps the most telling stat for Weimer is that he logged his fastest laps on the last lap in each moto, proving that he has the never-give-up spirit that embodies the RC Hard Charger Award.
The 450 class also witnessed a strong come-from-behind ride, when Muscle Milk/Toyota/JGR rider Josh Grant went down in the first turn of the second moto. Grant charged from 30th to 10th.
The 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship heads to Buchanan, Michigan this weekend for the Rockstar Energy Drink Red Bud National, commencing on Saturday at 1 p.m. EST. Coverage of the second 450 Class moto will air at 3:30 p.m. EST. Gates drop at RedBud beginning at 1 p.m. EST on Saturday, July 3.
