  • Arenacross Interview: Cory Green

AURORA, Ill. – In the wake of the economic strife teams are forced to work hard to find sponsorship dollars. In the AMA Arenacross Series, one of those teams that took a hit was the Reynard Modifications Suzuki squad that featured Oklahoma riders Robbie Reynard and Cory Green.

While Reynard has scaled back his AMA Arenacross Series schedule for 2009, Green has committed to a full season of competition racing in the series he loves, running his own team and taking advantage of all the support he can get.

The Nowata native has experienced some ups and downs, but considering where he started the season, the amount of progress he has made is admirable and it will only continue to move forward.

How has the season been going for you?
It started out pretty rough. I was actually running number 13 and I think that it might have brought me a little bit of bad luck. I don’t know for sure but I changed it up anyway and went back to my old number. I’ve been doing a lot better since.

And what is your old number?
Number 480.

So who have you been running for this season?
It’s been just myself this season actually. I don’t really have a team now. Reynard still helps me with my motors and stuff though.

How has such a big adjustment been for you?
It started out pretty rough, but we’ve found out a way to make it work. Now it’s starting to come along a little bit. Things are picking up for sure.

Who has stepped up to help you so you can run a full season?
Mainly my parents. Big time. Without them I wouldn’t be where I’m at now. Reynard Mods has stuck around and does my motors, suspension and everything. No Fear has been giving me gear each week. VRM has been a big help as well.

The series is making its debut in Tulsa, Oklahoma this weekend. As an Oklahoma native what does it mean to race at home?
It means quite a bit. I think it will help boost my confidence. I’ll be back in front of the hometown crowd with everybody supporting me and being behind me. So I hope to get a chance to show them something.

What would you like to accomplish this weekend?
Well I’ll be running in both classes this weekend. I definitely want to grab the win in the Lites class and hopefully I can podium in the big bike class.

Based on what you’ve endured this season, what would you want to accomplish the rest of this season to walk away happy?
The number one thing would be to walk away 100% (healthy). I really just want to ride consistent and hopefully get up on (the podium). I’d love some wins and everything, but I just want to stay 100% and ride consistent enough to where I can make it up front every weekend.
