  • AMA Arenacross Heads to Baltimore

AURORA, Ill. – After opening the 2009 season last weekend with exciting action from Grand Rapids, Mich., the AMA Arenacross Series returns to Baltimore’s 1st Mariner Arena for round two of the 11-race season.

Veteran rider and series points leader Jeff Gibson will lead the way aboard his Tuf Honda after a solid two rounds of racing in which he posted second and third-place finishes.

Additionally, Grand Rapids winners Keith Johnson and Nathan Skaggs look to maintain the early-season momentum in the quest for the AMA Arenacross championship.

A potent lineup of challengers, including reigning champion Chad Johnson, series legend Josh Demuth, Kelly Smith, and Brock Sellards join the trio in attacking the 1st Mariner Arena floor for two nights of racing.

Last year in Baltimore, new Babbitt’s Monster Energy Kawasaki teammates Kelly Smith and Chad Johnson won on Friday and Saturday night, respectively. Additionally, the pair failed to finish worse than second as Johnson took the runner-up spot on Friday with Smith grabbing second on Saturday. Johnson used the momentum to catapult him to the 2008 championship.

In the ultra-competitive AMA Arenacross Lites class, Codi Adams and Willy Browning grabbed victories on Friday and Saturday night, respectively to kick off the Midwest Division championship. This weekend, the young talent of the Eastern Division will begin its three-race championship.

Last season, it was a Sewell dominated weekend as the brother tandem of Travis and Shane took big wins. Travis led the way of Friday while Shane followed strongly on Saturday en route to the North Division title.

All Gold Circle Level seats cost just $20. Mid-level seats are $18 for adults and $8 for kids, ages 2-12. Tickets cost $2 more the day of the race. Purchase at 1st Mariner Arena Box Office and Ticketmaster charge by phone at 800-551-SEAT.
