There is no rider as passionate and patriotic as dual and defending World and AMA Supercross Champion Chad Reed when it comes to representing his country.
Reed will pull on the green and gold jersey this weekend as part of the Australian team at the 2008 MX des Nations at Donington Park in the United Kingdom.
The event will mark Reed’s race debut of his RMZ450 with new team Rockstar Makita Suzu ki, and he is determined to ensure Australia factors in the results.
The 26-year-old said he was extremely happy with the team lineup this year and hoped to lead his fellow countrymen to a top-placed finish amongst 34 other teams.
“I leave for the UK today, I can’t wait to touch down and start warming up for the MX des Nations this weekend,” said Reed.
“I feel honoured to be able to pull on the Aussie jersey once again and I’m quietly confident that Michael (Byrne), Brett (Metcalfe) and myself have what it takes to challenge the US team,” he said.
“This will be my first race on the new Suzuki, and I’ll have Roger DeCoster and the team on hand for the debut which is exciting.”
The event kicks off a whirlwind tour for Reed, who will then jet to Perth in Western Australia for the first-ever round of the inaugural Super X championship.
From here he will return to the United States, touching down in Las Vegas for the Rockstar Energy US Open. This will be another momentous occasion for Reed as he makes his US debut with the team.
With the ink still drying on his passport stamps, he will then head back to South Australia for the second round of Super X at the Adelaide Showground.
“This is a really busy period for myself and the team,” continued Reed.
“I’m keen to spend as much time on the bike as possible, and these next few months are where we lay our building blocks for the 2009 AMA/World title defence.”
