Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki Finds the Podium at Gopher Dunes
Dusty Klatt moves into second place in the CMRC Canadian Motocross Nationals points chase
Riverside, CA (June 2, 2008) - Team Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki riders Jeff Gibson, Dusty Klatt and Heidi Cooke were looking forward to a strong showing at the second round of the CMRC Monster Energy Canadian Nationals. The event was held at Gopher Dunes, one of the toughest tracks on the CMRC Canadian Motocross Nationals circuit, and a heavy downpour on Saturday afternoon made the track even tougher. Despite the rough track, Klatt scored his first moto win of the season with a convincing win in the first MX1 moto and secured a solid second place overall finish.
Klatt's first moto win came convincingly as he lead from the first turn to the finish line. "My Kawasaki powered me to a great holeshot and I was able to pull a fairly large lead," said Klatt. "I was able to slow the pace about halfway through the race to get our first win of the season. That first one is always tough to get so hopefully that will lead to more wins for the Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki team."
In the second MX1 moto, Gibson took the early lead and rode strong for the first few laps. Two riders were able to maneuver their way around Gibson to setup a battle between the two Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki teammates. However, a mistake from Gibson dropped him back a few positions and allowed Klatt to inherit third place. Klatt would hold on to third at the finish line and Gibson ended the moto in tenth place.
The second place overall finish helped Klatt leap into second place overall in the Championship standings. "Dusty had a pretty good weekend and now he's only twelve points out of the championship lead," explained team manager Derek Sorenson. "Gibson and Cooke (the Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki Womens Motocross entry) didn't have the best of weekends but they'll be ready to come back strong at the next round."
The Monster Energy Cernics Kawasaki team will travel to Shadow Valley Raceway in Manitoba on June 15 for round three of the Monster Energy CMRC Canadian Motocross Nationals.
