  • Kawasaki’s James Stewart Races for Amp’d Mobile Supercross Win at Chase Field

AURORA, Ill. (January 9, 2006) – Reigning Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP champion James Stewart, 21, of Haines City, Fla., picked up his 13th career supercross victory last weekend in Anaheim, Calif., at Angel Stadium and sets his eyes on his first win in Phoenix this Saturday, January 13, at Chase Field.

A pre-race press conference will be held at Chase Field Thursday, January 11, from Noon-2:00 p.m., featuring Phoenix-based Team Solitaire’s Ryan Clark. Riders will be available for interviews and will ride the track for the media. For additional media opportunities, please contact dennyhartwig@livenation.com.

Since its debut at the facility in 1999, Amp’d Mobile Supercross has averaged more than 46,000 fans per race and brings a multi-million dollar economic impact to the city of Phoenix and the surrounding area.

Last year seven-time supercross champion Jeremy McGrath started the AMA Supercross class main event with an impressive holeshot, drawing the entire crowd to their feet as the icon led the field around the track for the first lap and a half. Australian Chad Reed pushed his Yamaha past McGrath and assumed the lead for several laps. On lap 11, Suzuki’s Ricky Carmichael moved into the lead and rode off to victory.

The win for Carmichael marked his fourth at Chase Field (Carmichael is the only rider to win at this venue more than once). Carmichael went on to win his fifth AMA Supercross championship in 2006, and at the final race of the season, Carmichael announced that he will race a limited schedule in 2007. Kawasaki’s James Stewart, who finished third at last year’s race, is the next generation in the premier AMA Supercross class.

“I’m going to cherish this one like it’s the last one; it’s been a while since I’ve won,” said Carmichael, who picked up the 128th win of his career inside Chase Field.

While racing in the AMA Supercross Lites class (formerly the 125cc class), Stewart earned two consecutive victories in Phoenix and holds the record for the most 125cc wins in Phoenix.

KTM’s Nathan Ramsey picked up his first AMA Supercross Lites win of the season last year at Chase Field, besting Honda’s Billy Laninovich and eventual champion Grant Langston. Kawasaki rookie Ryan Villopoto, who is being dubbed ‘the next best thing,’ jumped out to an early lead in the main event and finished fourth.

The first AMA Supercross race was held at this venue on January 23, 1999, and McGrath won on a Yamaha. Ramsey won the first AMA Supercross Lites race in Phoenix while riding for Kawasaki.

Tickets are available through www.SupercrossOnline.com, all Ticketmaster outlets, charge by phone at 480-784-4444, participating Yamaha dealers and at Chase Field’s box office. Club Level seats are $50; Gold Level Seats are $40; Mid-Level Seats are $30 for adults and $10 for kids; Xtreme seats are $20 for adults and $10 for kids; Treadhead Seats are $10. Chase Field offers family section tickets on the lower level for $40. The pit pass outlet will be announced shortly. Gates open at 12:30 for practice and qualifying and racing begins at 7:00 p.m.
