  • Cernic’s Kawasaki Makes AMA Supercross Debut

Both team riders make Supercross class main event at series opener in Anaheim, CA

Somerset, PA – Cernic’s Kawasaki, the newest squad joining the ranks of Amp’d Mobile Supercross, had a successful debut this past Saturday in Anaheim, CA, with both team riders posting solid results.

Leading the team was New York native Paul Carpenter (#37), who finished 11th on his KX450F. His teammate, Ohio’s Jeff Gibson (#40), finished 15th.

But it wasn’t easy getting both riders in to the main event. In fact, Carpenter had to use a provisional start to get in to the main after crashing while leading the Last Chance Qualifier.

“We talked with Paul before the LCQ about the chances of having to use our provisional, so I wasn’t that worried about the crash,” said team manager, Billy Whitley. “I wish we would not have had to use it but it worked out well. I’m very thankful for that new rule!”

Gibson, on the other hand, was able to directly transfer to the main via a ninth-place finish in Heat 1. Both riders rode well in the main event to finish 11th and 15th, respectively.

“I think the weekend went great,” Whitley continues. “I’m really excited about having Cernic’s on board and being in the big-bike class. I know Paul and Jeff are going to do a great job for our team.”

Both riders are currently sitting within the top 10 in the Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP Series, with Carpenter in 9th and Gibson in 10th.

Cernic’s Kawasaki will return next week for round two of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series at Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ, on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007.
