  • Top AMA Supermoto Championship Riders to Compete in X Games 12

PICKERINGTON, Ohio (Aug. 2, 2006) -- An all-star international field of riders, including some of the top riders of the AMA Supermoto Championship are slated to compete in this weekend’s supermoto action at X Games 12. The AMA-endorsed event will again be held at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, Calif. Sunday’s main event is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. EST and will be broadcast live nationally on ABC.

Travis Pastrana, who is competing in supermoto, rally car and freestyle, will be battling multi-time AMA Supercross and Motocross Champion and current AMA Supermoto Championship points leader Jeff Ward, along with Doug Henry and Mark Burkhart, who are second and third place in the standings, respectively. In an extremely competitive AMA season, Ward and Henry each have four wins and are separated by only 11 points. This weekend’s X Games competition, while not part of the AMA championship, will see the racing greats going head to head.

Other former AMA champions and legendary riders participating in this event include Jeremy McGrath, Eddy Seel (Belgium) , Ivan Lazzarini (Italy), Jurgen Kunzel (Germany) and Chad Reed, among others.

AMA Supermoto Director Joel Grover is pleased to see supermoto showcased at the wildly popular X Games. “We’re supportive of anything that helps raise the visibility and awareness of supermoto as a class of racing,” said Grover. “Now in its fourth year, the AMA Supermoto Championship is enjoying solid growth and stability. The X Games allows the sport to be exposed to a large number of fans who might not otherwise see this unique form of competition.”

The official X Games sport organizer and race producer for the event is Malibu, California-based Media X International, Inc. (MXi).

Tickets for X Games 12 are available for purchase at all Ticketmaster locations, Ticketmaster.com and the box offices at STAPLES Center, The Home Deport center and Team LA at Universal CityWalk.

The AMA Supermoto Championship resumes on Aug. 25-26 at Invesco Field in Denver, Colo.
