Monster Energy’s Villopoto Looking To Back Up High Point MX National
Villopoto went 2-1 for the win at High Point – the first installment
of the Monster Energy/Kawasaki Triple Crown of Motocross – now races for first time in pro career in the sands of Southwick this Sunday
CARLSBAD, Calif., (June 8, 2006) – Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/
Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto leads the Monster Energy assault on the
sands of Southwick (Mass.) this weekend, Round Three of the 2006
Toyota AMA Motocross Championships.
So it’s probably safe to say that Villopoto will be watching,
listening to and taking pointers from teammate Grant Langston, who
won the Southwick round last year with a 2-1 finish.
“I know Grant’s going to run well at Southwick,” said
Villopoto. “I want to work to stay with him, learn as much about the
track as quickly as possible, and be there in the end with a shot a
the podium.”
Villopoto, last year’s top rookie finisher on the AMA MX Nationals
circuit, is just eight points behind Mike Alessi for the overall lead
in the AMA Lites division. Langston, who finished 4th at High Point
after missing out on the points at Hangtown with an injured wrist
suffered at the Vegas SX, is in 10th overall in the Lites class
points chase.
Also looking to keep the momentum going after the High Point round
will be Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Troy Adams. Adams had a season-best 6th place overall Lites class finish at High Point,
which moved him to within several points of the top five overall
after two races.
“Being that I grew up racing in Florida, the sand and humidity at
Southwick will feel right at home,” said Adams.
The final Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki racer, Chris Gosselaar, is battling a leg injury and is hopeful he can boot up and be competitive at Southwick, though his status remains questionable.
