  • Monster Energy Signs Godfather Of Freestyle Motocross Mike Metzger

Metz & Monster hook up for ’06 FMX season beginning with this week’s running of the 10th annual ESPN Winter X Games in Aspen, Colo.

CARLSBAD, Calif., (Jan. 26, 2006) – One of the founding fathers of the freestyle motocross movement –  O.G. Mike Metzger – will be rockin’ the glowing green ripped “M Claw” logo this weekend when the 10th annual ESPN Winter X Games opens for competition on Buttermilk Mountain this in Aspen, Colo.

Metzger, 30, brings to the table a cache of five X Games medals in freestyle motocross, including gold from the Summer ’02 X Games and ’03 Winter X Games. Insane as ever, Metz will no doubt be one of the favorites to podium at the most crowded of all the Winter X events – FMX on Saturday night.

“Metz can roll out of a hospital bed onto a bike and win,” said Crown AMG’s Scott Sepkovic, spokesman for Monster Energy Drink. “We’d just like him to roll out of his hotel bed and win.”

Sidelined with an injury for much of 2004, Metz will arrive in Aspen not only as a medal favorite, but also as one of the favorite athletes with the fans – all sports included.

“I’ve been buying Monster by the can at the gas station on the way into work and was thinking ‘Why am I paying Monster to drink their product when they could be paying me?,” said Metzger. “Then it dawned on me that I haven’t competed in over a year. (laughs) So yeah, I’m definitely down with Monster’s product. I always run the original, the wife like the Lo-Carb and my kids dig that Khaos flavor. It’s all good with Metz & Monster!”

Monster Energy supports the sport. Be it motocross, surf, skate, snow, BMX – name it – the athletes are rockin’ Monster Energy more than anything these days. Check out all the flavors – Original Monster Energy, Monster Lo-Carb, Monster Assault and the new Monster/fruit juice hybrid called “Khaos.” Mike Metzger digs it – so will you.
