  • Electric Versus Gas in 2025 World Supercross Championship

The following is a press release from the FIM World Supercross Championship

London, UK, 21 August 2025: The FIM World Supercross Championship today announced a groundbreaking moment in supercross history with the signing of the Geneva Agreement and the entry of Stark Future into the 2025 World Supercross Championship.

The Geneva Agreement is a fan-first initiative: a three-year commitment between championship and all seven teams that guarantees top-tier rider participation and sustained team investment in world-class talent. In doing so, it lays the groundwork for a dynamic, competitive lineup at every round of the championship moving forward.

The signing of the deal has enabled Stark Future to become the seventh and first ever fully electric team to join the starting gate and compete head-to-head against combustion-engine bikes in an FIM-sanctioned supercross championship. The Geneva Agreement sets out how the championship supports the teams financially until the end of the 2027 season, with World Supercross paying a participation fee to all teams, as well as additional financial rewards granted to those that consistently recruit top riders and invest in the sport’s growth.

As part of the agreement, World Supercross has reaffirmed its substantial investment in the sport, including the introduction of an enhanced seven-figure prize fund to be contested by teams in the championship. This commitment underscores World Supercross’ vision of elevating the sport to new heights by making it more profitable, competitive, and compelling for fans.

Tom Burwell, CEO of World Supercross said: "At World Supercross, every decision we make puts our fans first. The Geneva Agreement marks a significant milestone in our journey, ensuring top level rider lineups that raise the bar for competition. This isn’t just a win for the teams; it’s a major step forward for the fans who fuel our sport. By securing long-term certainty for teams and laying the commercial groundwork for sustainable global growth, we’re setting the stage to take the championship to new heights."

On the agreement, Rick Ware, Team Principal of Rick Ware Racing said: “This agreement provides a crucial foundation for teams competing in the World Supercross Championship. Knowing the commercial landscape for the next three years allows us to plan more effectively and invest in our riders and team, with the highest level of confidence. It’s about stability and growth for everyone involved and we’re optimistic about the direction that Tom Burwell and Kurt Nicoll are carrying this world championship in. We are poised as a series to put on the best show yet for our fans.”

Stark Future will compete alongside and against some of the most well-known, experienced teams in supercross: Pipes Motorsports Group, Quad Lock Honda, MotoConcepts Racing, Venum Bud Racing Kawasaki, Rick Ware Racing, and GSM Yamaha. The hotly anticipated supercross debut will create a memorable occasion for the sport when the Stark Varg bike lines up for Round 01 of the 2025 World Supercross season at the Malaysian GP, Kuala Lumpur. The Barcelona-based team will be led by former motocross star Sébastien Tortelli as Team Principal and will field an experienced rider lineup, with all riders coming from a traditional combustion engine moto background, making their transition to electric a landmark test in the sport’s history.

Having been a driving force behind the innovation, working closely with the Stark Future team over recent months, Kurt Nicoll, Vice President of Race Development of World Supercross said: “Stark Future’s entry represents a major milestone not just for World Supercross, but for supercross as a whole. For the first time in our championship, fans will witness electric and combustion bikes racing together on equal terms at the very highest level. It adds another interesting layer of competition for our fans to experience – it will raise our racing to another level.”

Over the last two years, Stark Future has worked closely with the FIM (Fédération
Internationale de Motocyclisme) to ensure performance balances against combustion engines, as well as safety regulations for the Stark VARG – its groundbreaking electric bike. With 36 onboard sensors providing real-time data and full transparency to officials, the team has committed to parity and fair  competition.

Anton Wass, Founder & CEO of Stark Future, said: “This is the beginning of a new chapter and a great milestone for the future of supercross as a sport. Working with Kurt and the team has shown that World Supercross is fully committed to pushing boundaries and creating a platform so that we can prove that electric belongs on the same stage as combustion engines. We’re here to compete at the very top level – we know we’re fast out the gate, so it’s going to be a really exciting challenge to be out there racing the best teams and riders the sport has to offer.”

The 2025 World Supercross Championship season promises to be the biggest, most exciting and now most innovative in World Supercross history, with Stark Future leading the charge into the future of electric racing.
