Acclaimed Bowhunter and Endurance Athlete Cameron Hanes Named Grand Marshal of Washougal National

Longtime Supporter of Veterans to Serve Special Role at Military Appreciation Race

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – MX Sports Pro Racing, Inc., in conjunction with event organizers Ryan and Rod Huffman, has announced that world renowned bowhunter, acclaimed endurance athlete, and best-selling author Cameron Hanes will serve as Grand Marshal of this Saturday’s FLY Racing Washougal National Presented by Peterson CAT, the eighth race of the 2025 Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. As Grand Marshal, Hanes will play an integral role in this year’s Military Appreciation Race, as the father of a veteran and a passionate, longtime supporter of all service men and women.

“Cameron Hanes isn’t just a master of his craft; he’s a tireless worker and someone who is always striving to get the most out of himself. He’s shown a genuine appreciation for the commitment of our athletes to be the best at what they do and has become a new fan of the sport, so he became an ideal candidate to be our Grand Marshal,” said Ryan Huffman, who alongside his brother has extended his family’s legacy with Washougal MX Park into a second generation. “On top of that, he’s a tremendous supporter of both veterans and active-duty service members, as his oldest son served in the Army. He’ll play a key role in our efforts with the Military Appreciation Race and our partnership with the Veteran MX Foundation.”

Hanes is a native of the Pacific Northwest, hailing from Eugene, Oregon, which sits less than 150 miles from Washougal MX Park. A challenging upbringing shaped the work ethic that has defined his ascension into an outdoors icon. His passion for the wilderness started at a young age and although he didn’t pick up a bow for the first time until he was 19 years old, he knew it was his calling. Long before he became the face of bowhunting, Hanes was an aspiring writer, penning articles for small publications that allowed him to express his love for hunting. His all-or-nothing attitude led him to self-publish his first book in 1999 and ultimately fostered his ability to make a name for himself within the industry. The success of his second book opened more doors and became the gateway to the success he enjoys today, all of which he attributes to a dedication to giving his all. Now, he’s a renowned ultra-marathon runner, arguably the world’s most recognizable bowhunter, and a prominent figure in the podcasting world where he brings individuals from all walks of life to learn what it takes to be successful through his Keep Hammering Collective, which he hopes serves as an inspiration to others.

Earlier this year, Hanes had the opportunity to get his first exposure to the world of SMX by attending the Seattle Supercross in March. He was instantly hooked, captivated by the unique skill and sacrifices made by SMX athletes to be the best in the world. As Grand Marshal, Hanes will get even closer to the action and will have the opportunity to share his bowhunting talents with Pro Motocross athletes. He’ll also interact with members of the Veteran MX Foundation and will hand out the trophy for the “Branch Battle” set to take place during amateur day within the Warrior class, a designated division for service men and women.

The FLY Racing Washougal National will serve as Round 25 of the SMX World Championship this Saturday, July 19, from Washougal MX Park in Washougal, Washington.

Tickets are now available for all rounds of the 2025 season and can be purchased by visiting www.ProMotocross.com.
