Watch: Marshal Weltin Helps Antonio Cairoli Get Unstuck at Spring Creek National
Antonio Cairoli’s second go round in the AMA Pro Motocross Championship on the all-new Ducati Desmo450 MX once again came with some bumps in the road. Last weekend at the RedBud National, an electrical issue ended Cairoli’s second moto early, leaving him with 9-39 finishes for 14th overall. Still, Cairoli proved the Italian brand’s new dirt bike is capable here in the U.S.
On Saturday at the Spring Creek National—the second and final go for Cairoli and the Ducati team here in Pro Motocross this summer—Cairoli went down a few turns into the first moto and was stuck under his bike. Yamaha-mounted Marshal Weltin saw his competitor stuck, turned around, dropped his bike and showed great sportsmanship, helping Cairoli get unstuck before going about his own race.
Jason Weigandt asked Marshal about this in the Weege Show and Marshal replied, joking. "I was [already] in last place."
Cairoli was looked at by the Alpinestars medical crew before remounting and landing 23rd in the moto. He then scored tenth in the second moto. That means he scored top tens in the two motos where he didn't have a crash or a bike problem.

Cairoli said the following in a post-race release:
“Race one started badly. I collided with another rider, crashed and the bike landed on top of me - right on the exhaust side - burning part of my leg. I stopped to get checked out by the doctors and restarted because I wanted to finish the race at all costs to collect as much data as possible. Despite being a lap down in 40th, I fought hard and made it up to 23rd with a solid pace. Heading into race two, I wasn’t even sure if I'd be able to start, but in the end, things went better than expected. I gritted my teeth through the pain and managed to finish 10th. On the left-hand turns, I could lean and push, but on the right, it hurt, and I couldn't ride at my best. It's a shame because we could have had two good top-10 finishes, but we still gave it our all and gathered plenty of very important data. Now we'll take the information home and start preparing for the next challenge.”
He later posted some more on Instagram, note the last images are of his burned behind.
