  • Final Entry List for 2025 RedBud SMX Next – Motocross Scouting Moto Combine
Buchanan, MI RedBudAMA Pro Motocross Championship

The following press release is from MX Sports:

2025 SMX Next – Motocross Scouting Moto Combine Continues with 4th of July Gathering at RedBud MX

Talented Field of 26 Prospects to be Mentored by Decorated Rider Coaches

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a successful debut at Hangtown just over a month ago, the second event of SMX Next – Motocross will see 26 talented prospects invited to Michigan’s legendary RedBud MX for the second gathering of the Scouting Moto Combine Presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare. The excitement of the 4th of July will accompany these young racers this Friday, officially kicking off the weekend festivities surrounding the Honda RedBud National Presented by Dixxon Flannel, the sixth race of the 2025 Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing.

“Few venues and few events carry the lore and prestige that RedBud does, but for the sport of motocross there is nothing more iconic than the 4th of July at this incredible venue. It is a cornerstone of the Pro Motocross Championship and has quickly become a staple of SMX Next – Motocross and the Moto Combine,” said Jim Perry, Program Director for the Scouting Moto Combine. “We have invited our largest group of athletes to date for the program and they will be partnered with a decorated group of Rider Coaches that includes a pair of AMA Hall of Famers. It will be a memorable experience for these young athletes and a highly competitive competition on the racetrack.”

Working in conjunction with competing manufacturers GASGAS, Honda, Husqvarna, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki, Triumph, and Yamaha, this hand-selected group of invited prospects will consist of 26 top A & B class riders. The lineup features a mix of racers with prior SMX Next experience in addition to new talent that will participate in the program for the first time. A pair of 25-minute, plus two-lap motos await the field on Friday afternoon.

Providing the foundation of guidance and mentorship of these prospects is one of the most decorated groups of rider coaches ever assembled at the Scouting Moto Combine. Leading the group is a pair of AMA Hall of Fame inductees in Broc Glover (Class of 2000) and its newest member for the Class of 2025, Chad Reed. Combined, this pair boasts nine AMA National Championships and 100 SMX League victories. They’ll be joined by another former champion in Ezra Lusk, a past 125cc Regional Supercross titleholder, in addition to Michael Byrne, a perennial front-runner who guided Team Australia to victory at the 2024 FIM Motocross of Nations, and Gareth Swanepoel, a prominent South African racer who has become one of the most respected trainers in the sport. Collectively, this group of coaches will lend their immense knowledge and expertise to benefit these young athletes both on and off the track.

Additional support at RedBud will come from Mike Bonacci, Team Manager of Muc-Off/FXR/ClubMX Yamaha, and Christina Denney, the SMX Next – Motocross Event Coordinator, WMX Championship Coordinator, and a longtime SMX team manager.

The impact and influence of SMX Next at the professional level continues to grow as more and more athletes, both domestically and internationally, graduate from the program. Most recently, Hangtown Combine winner and Australian prospect Kayden Minear stepped up for Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing to contest the Pro Motocross 250 Class at Thunder Valley and High Point. He is the latest addition to an incredibly decorated contingent of SMX Next graduates that include defending Pro Motocross 250 Class Champion, reigning back-to-back SMX World Champion, and current point leader Haiden Deegan, Honda HRC Progressive’s Chance Hymas, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Julien Beaumer, the 2024 Pro Motocross Rookie of the Year, the Rockstar Energy GASGAS Factory Racing duo of Ryder DiFrancesco and Casey Cochran, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Daxton Bennick, Phoenix Racing Honda’s Gavin Towers, and the 250 Class’ newest members in Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Drew Adams, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cole Davies, and Muc-Off/ClubMX/Yamaha’s Alexander Fedortsov, who captured the SMX Next – Supercross crown.

While the pair of motos will be the focal point of Friday’s RedBud Combine, participants will also receive education surrounding other important aspects of the sport that occur away from the racetrack, including training, nutrition, and guidance on how to navigate the various layers of media engagement. These classroom-style sessions provide the foundation for the gathering, before racers line up behind the starting gate to determine who will prevail at RedBud.
