Morning Report
After a wild week full of different breaking news updates, we are finally back at the races! Today, the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship takes over Angel Stadium for the second and final time in the 17-round championship.
Off the heals off his first career win, Julien Beaumer enters today in the 250SX West Region Championship lead. We will see how the pressure of the red plate impacts the Arizona native, who enters just his 13th pro 250SX race today. The #23 leads veteran Jordon Smith, Jo Shimoda, and Haiden Deegan in the championship standings. Ryder DiFrancesco—P5 in the standings entering the day—is one of four riders announced to be missing this weekend, as the #25 will be sidelined with an arm injury as well as Garrett Marchbanks (shoulder injury), Ty Masterpool (broken fingers), Stilez Robertson (wrist injury), and Avery Long (concussion protocol).
Shimoda was supposed to ride press day Friday then make a decision, but the team decided to have him skip Friday's riding session for an extra day of rest. He will test out his hand this morning before making a decision on if he will race or not, so stay tuned.
Read our full injury report for more updates.
And with Marchbanks and Masterpool both out, SX Futures/fill-in rider Drew Adams will officially make his pro supercross debut today as the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki team's sole rider.
In the 450SX Class, Eli Tomac has the extra red on his Yamaha YZ450F for the first time since the 2023 Denver Supercross, and unfortunately, we all know how that night ended. So far, the 450SX Class has been mostly injury free for the top riders. Will we finally see the battle between Tomac, Chase Sexton, and Jett Lawrence we were all robbed of at the first two rounds? The first two rounds brought not only two different winners (Sexton and Tomac) but six different riders on the podium! That has only happened three times to start a season in the 50 years of AMA Supercross, which is pretty neat. And while the trio of Tomac, Sexton, and J. Lawrence have been fast, so has Ken Roczen and Cooper Webb. Who will leave with the points lead is anyone’s guess but give us your predictions in the comments section below.
As for today’s racing, we have two sets of whoops today—although they are slightly different from one another. We also might experience some rain during the night show.
Stay tuned into this post, as well as our social media pages for more updates throughout the entire day.
Check out the full race day schedule below, as well as the TV broadcast times, too.
First practices
In 250 free practice it was Jordon Smith fast early, then Cole Davies took over the top spot. Late in the session Haiden Deegan took over the top spot on the board with Smith and Michael Mosiman also in the hunt. Late in the session Smith struck back with another fast lap.
It was Eli Tomac, Jett Lawrence and Jason Anderson as the top three early in free practice for 450s, Jett then did a quad in a rhythm the riders were working during yesterday’s press day. He jumped it and went to the top over Tomac, with Malcolm Stewart also showing speed.
For 250 timed practice, Deegan controlled the early laps then Julien Beaumer took it back and Deegan responded on the last lap to regain the top spot. Mosiman also logged a heater on the last lap took third away from Smith, with Enzo Lopes fifth in his return to
AMA Supercross! And rookie Drew Adams was sixth!
Jo Shimoda 19th but we visited him in the Honda truck and he indicated he’s racing no matter what. As long as he can stay precise and avoid clipping or over jumping he thinks he will tough it out.
But mistakes can happen and it showed in the next 450 session. Jorge Prado got it wrong in a rhythm section and crashed over a berm and into the net. He was attended to by the Alpinestars Medics and eventually got up…sporting a sling on his shoulder. That’s not a good sign for the MXGP World Champion.
[Update:] Race Day Live's Hayley Shanley has reported that Prado suffered a dislocated shoulder in his crash. Later in an interview with RDL announcer Steven "Lurch" Scott, Prado explained that he went long over a quad and then crashed, and when he went to grab the safety net and it hurt his shoulder. He's at least out for the night.
Eli Tomac was ripping early on top quickly, Jett Lawrence didn’t look sorted and was cruising, but where was Chase Sexton? He didn’t throw down a good time in free practice. He finally jumped up to second here, then Jett put in a fast lap but it was a second off of Tomac, but still good enough for second overall.
It looked like Tomac was gonna take it until the final lap when Lawrence threw down and took the top spot.
Final Session:
We're witnessing some timing and scoring problems during the 250 sessions, so we don't have times we can post here. Julien Beaumer was on top at the end of teh session, though, with Jordon Smith second. Haiden Deegan made some strange mistakes during that session and ended up third, but he does hold on for first overall based on his time in the first session. Jo Shimoda was able to tough out a decent score with 8th place in the group, impressive considering his injury.
In the final 450 session, Eli Tomac was ripping most of the way and on top of the board, but Jett Lawrence saved the best for last, uncorking a quad-in to a rhythm that no one else had done. Instantly, he went to the top of the board, .9 seconds ahead of everyone else. Big difference. Tomac tried to uncork one more heater but washed the front in a corner and crashed. Meanwhile we've heard Chase Sexton was under the weather a bit this week, and skipped riding on Thursday. He was third quickest.

Night Show
Heat Races
250SX Heat Race #1
Coty Schock holeshot the first heat race of the night and blasted away from the field. Eventually, Cole Davies charged up to second and was going at Schock for the race lead! However, Schock held strong and barely held on for the race win. Jordon Smith charged to third ahead of Jo Shimoda, who finished fourth. Drew Adams made his way up to fifth by the checkered flag in his first pro supercross heat race win. Lux Turner with yet another solid heat race ride, finishing sixth.

250SX Heat Race #2
The gates dropped on the second heat race and it was Julien Beaumer leading the field out of the first turn! Beaumer blasted away from Michael Mosiman and Hunter Yoder, as Haiden Deegan eventually charged up to second. Deegan made up almost two-and-a-half seconds on Beaumer and then went for a block pass…and Beaumer went down! Deegan looked back and blasted out of the turn but within two sections he had a huge moment and almost went down all by himself! He got wheelspin coming out of the 180-degree turn and cased the triple with the tall landing, which sent him off the track and almost over the bars. Somehow, he stayed up. He tamed it down the final two laps and took the heat race win with a big Nac-Nac. Brad West had a big crash on the over/under bridge, which caused a wheels-on-the-ground flag in that section near the end of the race. Beaumer remounted and finished the heat third behind Deegan and Mosiman. Enzo Lopes came through fourth in his first heat race since the 2023 Salt Lake City Supercross.

450SX Heat Race #1
The gates dropped on the first 450SX heat race and Eli Tomac blasted out of the first turn in the race lead and absolutely checked out. Malcolm Stewart got bumped around and went down in the first turn, slowing up Aaron Plessinger in the process. The crowd erupted as Tomac came out of turn one in P1 and that was the last time anyone else in the race saw him, as the #3 was gone. Cooper Webb, Mitchell Oldenburg, and Hunter Lawrence were next, as Oldenburg and H. Lawrence were battling back and forth. The #96 had a pass made but a mistake allowed Oldenburg to fight back. The Austrailian would retake the position shortly after. Tomac cruised to the race win, which he celebrated with a huge whip. Plessinger (fourth) and Stewart (fifth) both qualified. Justin Cooper came through tenth behind Fredrik Noren, and he will have to go to the LCQ.

450SX Heat Race #1
The gates dropped on the first 450SX heat race and it was Jason Anderson holeshotting over Jett Lawrence and Ken Roczen. Roczen and Lawrence went back and forth for a few times before the #1 moved into P2. The Honda rider set his sights on rival Anderson out front as the two started to check out. Chase Sexton made his way up to fourth and then went after the front two. Lawrence was not able to get by Anderson, which allowed Sexton to catch up. Lawrence appeared to have the speed to get around Anderson, even though the #21 was riding well. However, the #1 did not push it and came through second at the checkered flag, just ahead of Sexton. Roczen, Dylan Ferrandis, and Justin Barcia came through fourth through sixth, as Justin Hill finished seventh. Colt Nichols finished tenth and will have to go to the LCQ.

Main Events
250SX Main Event
Qualifying, heats, and LCQs all wrapped up and it was time for the 250SX main event. The gates dropped and it was Haiden Deegan who exited turn one in front of the field. Julien Beaumer ran Deegan high in the second turn but eased up and both riders stayed up. Deegan slowed up and took Beaumer high in the following 180 turn, before then blasting off and checking out. Beaumer got pressure late from Jordon Smith, but on the final lap, Smith went down in the whoops! He lost a spot to Cole Davies, who was bumped from fourth to third. Parker Ross was third early in the race and gained a ton of experience running inside the top five before a crash. He eventually came through 12th for a new season/career-best. Deegan took the race win over Beaumer and Davies, who earned his first professional podium in just his third career start. Smith remounted for fourth ahead of Coty Schock, who had another strong night. Jo Shimoda, riding with those two broken fingers on his clutch hand, finished sixth in a gritty ride. Michael Mosiman charged into the top ten, finishing seventh as Drew Adams finished eighth in his first ever supercross 250SX main event.

450SX Main Event
Finally, it was time for the premier class main event to finish off the night. The revs went up and the gates went down , and it was... Justin Cooper with the holeshot! Eli Tomac was about 20th exiting the first turn and had some work to do. Cooper led the first few laps of the race until Jason Anderson got by. Just like their heat race, Jett Lawrence got into second behind Anderson but could not make a pass stick. He was close a few times but couldn't get a pass clean until he nailed the first whoop section, set up and executed a perfect block pass in the 180-degree turn into the next whoops section and blasted away! He took Anderson high enough to slow his momentum and from there, Lawrence was able to sneak away for the race win, his first of the year. Roczen stole second from Anderson, who fended off Chase Sexton for the final spot on the podium. Tomac charged to an eventual seventh place finish, with Cooper going sixth, Tomac going seventh, and Cooper Webb going eighth. Aaron Plessinger ran into Dylan Ferrandis early in the race and their bikes got stuck together, which damaged Plessinger's KTM. His race ended early and he officially scored 22nd.
