Yamaha has announced Daxton Bennick will sit out the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) Playoffs this fall. It has been an up and down year for the #59 machine, who podiumed his first Monster Energy AMA Supercross race ever back in February, finishing third in the 250SX main event at the Detroit Supercross. Since then, Bennick was hovering around the seventh to tenth place range for the remainder of supercross.
Then, in the AMA Pro Motocross Championship, Bennick was between the 11th to 20th range for most of the summer. And although he qualified for the finale at Ironman Raceway, Bennick sat out the motos, and the team didn't indicate why. The North Carolina native finished 17th in the 250 Class championship in his first full season of Pro Motocross.
Something to note here is that this will be the second-straight season Bennick has qualified for the 250SMX playoffs but will not be racing. Although he only competed in six rounds of Pro Motocross in 2023, Bennick qualified 28th heading into last year’s inaugural season of SMX—which guaranteed him a spot in the LCQ at each round. However, he did not race any of the three rounds. This go round, Bennick qualified 14th in 250SMX and had a guaranteed spot on the gate, but now he will not be racing any of this year’s playoffs either.
Below is the full post from Yamaha:
“Daxton Bennick will sit out the @supermotocross World Championship Finals to focus on returning to full fitness for the 2025 season.
“I have been dealing with some health issues for the last month or so and haven’t felt like myself at all lately. Unfortunately, I will be missing the SMX Finals, but it’s important we put my health first so I can perform at my best for the 2025 Supercross season. I’ve got a great team behind me and we will be back stronger.””
