Levi Kitchen After DNF at Ironman National: “Resting Now and I’ll Be All Good For SMX!”
After a crash that saw him pull off early in the second moto at the Ironman National, it appears Levi Kitchen does not have any serious injuries. Kitchen was coming off of his third overall win in the previous four rounds heading into the AMA Pro Motocross Championship finale in Indiana when he finished second in the first 250 Class moto. However, in the second moto, he went down and then rode off the track less than a handful of laps into the moto, ending his race early and killing his chances at the overall win. The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider said he twisted his knee in the second moto on the third lap, but he is expecting to be okay for the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) playoffs starting in September.
Kitchen not finishing the second moto allowed KTM's Tom Vialle to leap into second place in the final 2024 250 Class Championship standings, and Kitchen was pushed back to third. In his first year aboard a Kawasaki KX250, Kitchen took a huge leap both in AMA Supercross and Motocross, winning multiple races in each series. And after combining his tally in both supercross and motocross, the #47 will enter the SMX Playoffs second in 250SMX qualifying points behind only Deegan. So, he will enter the SMX Playoffs with 22 points.
Kitchen said the following in a post-race release from Kawasaki on Sunday morning:
“That first moto was interesting because I got around both Masterpool and Roczen but then they came charging again. I decided to back off and settle in before making a charge, and it worked. I really wish I could have fought for that overall, but I twisted my leg and didn’t think it was a good idea to stay out. I’m liking the way I’ve been riding the past few weeks so I’m really looking forward to the SMX Playoffs and seeing what we can do there.”
The Washington native then took to Instagram to update his followers.
“Taking the positives from the day at Ironman. Felt really good on the bike again and wanted to win that race bad. Didn’t execute my start and crashed twice by the 3rd lap. When I fell the second time I twisted my knee pretty bad and was stuck under the bike for a long time. Resting now and I’ll be all good for SMX!”
