Morning Report
The report from our man Steve Matthes, who is on the ground in Utah (or, actually up in the press box) is that ,"It's hot and dry today and the track is backwards compared to Sunday."
So that means the track and conditions are 180 degrees different than the last race here.
250SX West is back, for their first race in four months. They'll race today and Sunday, then East is back, and then next Sunday will mark the East/West Showdown. Dylan Ferrandis holds a seven-point lead on his Monster Energy/Star Racing Yamaha teammate Justin Cooper, with Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Austin Forkner 13 points back. Lots of spoilers in this title mix, like Forkner's returning (from injury) teammate Cameron Mcadoo, Brandon Hartranft (with multiple podiums this year on his TLD/Red Bull KTM), JGR/Yoshimura Suzuki's Alex Martin, and a trio of GEICO Honda riders in Christian Craig, Jett Lawrence and Hunter Lawrence, who is making his supercross debut.

In 450SX, Monster Energy Kawasaki's Eli Tomac has suddenly taken control of the series via 1-2-1 finishes in the first three races in Salt Lake City. Primary title rival Ken Roczen, of Honda HRC, has gone 3-5-10 and is all of a sudden 26 points down. Cooper Webb, of Red Bull KTM, has gone 2-1-2 here and is now six points behind Roczen. In general, time is running out on anyone hoping to stop Tomac from winning this title, you could even consider tonight's race to be the last stand for any of the other contenders.
This morning, Roczen posted a picture of him testing on his Honda and wrote "Let’s see if we have made some improvements in this short amount of time. Giving up is for losers! I will always come back and try again."
Other riders to watch include Rockstar Energy Husqvarna teammates Jason Anderson and Zach Osborne, who have been strong since racing returned. Malcolm Stewart (Bullfrog Spas/SmarTop MotoConcepts Honda) and Martin Davalos (Monster Energy Team Tedder KTM) have also been good. Anderson, who scored a podium on Sunday, is now just ten points behind Monster Energy Yamaha's Justin Barcia for fourth in the 450SX standings. Stewart scored a career-high fifth at the last race, and Davalos has gone 6-11-8 in the three races here, his steadiest run during his rookie 450SX season.

We got an update from JT from Rice-Eccles Stadium during an Instagram live video. Watch the archive below for the latest update from practice:
JT's main take was that the whoops were a real separator, which makes Webb's time more impressive. He and the KTM team have really stepped up the game in the whoops compared to last year and earlier this year, but JT feels that now he's able to match others in whoops, and still make up time in corners.
Also, he noted that Hunter Lawrence spent a lot of time following his brother Jett around in practice to learn the pace and style of supercross timed qualifying.
Final 250 Timed Practice
"It feels almost like Anaheim 1," said Austin Forkner. "Some of the first-race jitters are kinda back. We’ve only got three more races, so I really need to make something happen. I have to just try to win, that’s all I can do. Hopefully some guys will get between me and the other guys. Honestly, I’m just happy to be back racing, I was getting a little stir crazy at home. Looking forward to do some laps.

— Racer X (@racerxonline) June 10, 2020
[Turns out Forkner was mad at Hunter Lawrence for slowing him on a qualifying lap, and then cut him off going across mechanics' area. So Hunter immediately put him down in the next corner. Straight take out! Drama!]
THE JETT had an amazing lap going there, then jacked up turn with 2 turns to go..bummer. It was way legit
— Racer X (@racerxonline) June 10, 2020
The drama was behind the Yamaha boys, as Justin Cooper topped his teammate Dylan Ferrandis to take the top 250 time.
"The nerves are definitely a little bit higher, but I did good there and I think I handled the nerves right," said Cooper. "The track is shaping up good, it’s technical and I think there will be some options out there. I have more experience on the bike, it’s almost like I got a whole off-season on the bike. I was able to work on the things I need to, carry a little more experience every time out."

— Racer X (@racerxonline) June 10, 2020

— Racer X (@racerxonline) June 10, 2020
Blake Baggett is looking to turn things around after a rough few races in Salt Lake City, Utah, to this point. His response so far today is to go fastest overall in qualifying.
"First round was good, got a holeshot, led laps, went downhill," said Blake Baggett. "I’m just struggling for some reasons…I don’t know. I’m working them out with myself. It’s there, speed’s there. Altitude has been bothering me a bit, hopefully I’m getting used to it. Even with that lap there, I’m winded. Hopefully we can do that again and get on the podium when it counts."

250SX Heat 1
In the first race back for the 250SX West Region Championship, the cobwebs were getting shook off for everyone as some chaos ensued. The early lead would go to Dylan Ferrandis who led the way from Cameron Mcadoo early on.
Before long, McAdoo ran him down for the lead and started putting pressure on the defending champion. Right before the supercross triple, McAdoo sent it down the inside and put Ferrandis down in a fairly aggressive pass. Ferrandis would go over the bars but land on the Tuff Blox and remount still in transfer.
A few laps after that, Michael Mosiman began challenging McAdoo for the lead with just a couple laps left to go. Mosiman would make a move down the inside after the first rhythm lane and put both of them on the ground in a slow-motion block pass. Christian Craig then snuck through to take the lead.
Craig would hold on for the win in his first race back from injury at round four in Glendale.

250SX Heat 2
The second heat race featured a holeshot from Austin Forkner as he led Jett Lawrence around early. Earlier in practice, Forkner had some troubles with both Lawrence brothers and the battle seemed like it would continue on into the heat races.
Lawrence applied pressure and eventually started sizing up a move in the whoop section. Around the halfway mark, he got a little out of shape at the end of the whoops and fell while trying to save it. He would remount in second where he would stay for the rest of the race.
Forkner cruised to an easy win in the end out front and led home Lawrence and Brandon Hartranft over the line.

450SX Heat 1
In the first 450SX heat race, a titanic battle between Cooper Webb and Ken Roczen set the stage for an interesting main event. After Roczen struggled mightily at round 13 on Sunday, he appeared to look back to normal form in the heat race where he and Webb went toe-to-toe for most of the heat.
Webb was holding down the lead as Roczen tried a few times to make the pass, even getting ahead of him at one point before Webb would come right back and take the spot back. Both riders seemed to have the whoops handled fairly equally as they continued to break down.
Jason Anderson came up and made the move on Malcolm Stewart for the third spot late in the race with a full-send pass around the outside entering the whoops. They would settle into their spots behind the lead duo.
Up front, Webb would hold off a last turn attempt at a pass from Roczen to win the first heat race.

450SX Heat 2
The holeshot in the final heat race would go to Martin Davalos as he led around Blake Baggett and Eli Tomac early. Tomac wouldn’t wait too long to go after Baggett as he made the pass around the halfway mark of the heat race.
Benny Bloss fell while running sixth and would drop outside of transfer, moving Broc Tickle and Justin Hill around him for 8th and 9th, respectively.
The battle up front picked up some late intensity as Davalos fell into the clutches of Tomac and Baggett behind him. Tomac would take the lead with two laps to go and Baggett would follow through into second just a half lap later.
Tomac would hang on for the win out front leading home Baggett and Davalos in the end.

250SX Last Chance Qualifier
Hunter Lawrence ended up in the last chance qualifier for his supercross debut after a fall in the heat race. He ripped a big holeshot in the LCQ but was passed in the second corner by Killian Auberson. Lawrence then passed him back for the lead in the whoops before the first lap was over.
The battle for the final transfer spot was a close one between Cheyenne Harmon, Lorenzo Camporese, and Geran Stapleton. Stapleton was working hard on making the move on Camporese but then made contact with him before the finish line jump and went down.
Lawrence would hang on for the win out front and bring Mitchell Falk, Auberson, and Harmon to the main event with him.

450SX Last Chance Qualifier
In the 450SX LCQ, it was Fredrik Noren getting the holeshot, but Ryan Breece would quickly move into the lead. Vince Friese moved into second and had Noren and Kyle Cunningham right behind him. Cunningham went for the move and Noren fell in the process, moving Benny Bloss up into the final transfer spot.
Friese then went and got around Breece for the lead while Bloss moved into third around Cunningham. Bloss then moved around Breece for second and went after Friese for the lead simultaneously. Breece then made a mistake in the whoops and went off the track from third, dropping him outside of transfer and moving Alex Ray up into the final spot.
Bloss would take over the lead from Friese as they both pulled away from Cunningham behind them. Ray then came up alongside Cunningham and moved by him for third.
Benny Bloss would take the LCQ win and take Friese, Ray, and Cunningham to the main event with him.

250SX Main Event
The holeshot in the main event went to Justin Cooper around the outside with Austin Forkner taking the lead in the second turn. Forkner led as Cooper settled into second, McAdoo moved into third and Alex Martin was in fourth.
Ferrandis moved around Jett Lawrence in to the top five early as he was trying to keep pace with the lead group battling for championship points out front. Forkner, meanwhile, was pulling away a bit out front as Cooper nearly had a moment in the whoops allowing McAdoo to close up a bit.
Hunter Lawrence and Christian Craig both fell early and were way back. Jett Lawrence moved around Martin to get into the top five as Michael Mosiman came into the picture to start challenging the Lawrence and Martin battle ahead of him.
McAdoo and Cooper started battling for second and McAdoo made the move as Cooper nearly went down on the supercross triple. The pass also allowed Ferrandis to come up and make the move on his teammate Cooper as well.
Forkner was left unphased by what was going on behind him out front as he opened up a four second lead as Ferrandis closed on McAdoo for second. Ferrandis made the move on him for the two spot around the halfway point of the race and immediately started opening a gap on him as he tried to reel back in Forkner out front.
Lawrence then fell in the whoops while running fifth and fell back to 12th behind his teammate Craig who was continuing to charge forward. The fall moved Mosiman back up into fifth ahead of Martin with Brandon Hartranft, Mitchell Oldenburg, Derek Drake, and Carson Brown holding down the top ten spots behind them.
As the time continued to wind down, Ferrandis was closing slightly on Forkner for the lead but seemingly just not quite fast enough to get to him. As the flag waved, it was Forkner taking his third win of 2020 and leading home a Ferrandis and McAdoo podium at the first race back for the west.

450SX Main Event
Cooper Webb snagged the holeshot in the main event away from Ken Roczen and Zach Osborne early. Eli Tomac had a terrible start to his race as he was outside of the top ten early. Right away, Roczen started going for the lead on Webb out front as the second lap ended.
Tomac quickly went to work on making moves forward as he closed up on Justin Barcia for 10th and got around him before the end of the third lap. Then he was quick to move around Justin Brayton as well as Malcolm Stewart pulled out of the race with an issue.
Roczen was trying to make something happen on Webb out front and finally made the move stick with 13 minutes left on the clock. Webb responded immediately and went back by him just two turns later. They continued to battle out front as they pulled out a small lead on Baggett behind them.
Martin Davalos was holding onto the fifth spot but Tomac got by him with about half the race left to go. The shadows were really starting to cause some havoc as riders were staring right into the sun every lap as they hit the supercross triple on the far side of the stadium.
Baggett dropped third to Zach Osborne as ZachO was continuing to keep his streak of top five finishes in Salt Lake City alive. Baggett has been dealing with some numbness in his hands which was causing him to drop through the first at the first few rounds back and he was trying to make amends for those results with a strong top five run late in the race.
Roczen then seemed to begin suffering from the save breathing problems he has been having as he dropped way back from Webb out front and eventually lost second to Osborne with six minutes left to go in the race. Baggett was next to get around him with four minutes to go and Tomac wasn’t far behind as he then made the move the next lap by.
Justin Barcia had a late fall and flew off into the wall around the outside of the track, completely destroying his bike resulting in the end of his main event. Tomac eventually made the move on Blake Baggett to get into the final podium spot as the white flag waved.
Cooper Webb claimed his third win of 2020 and his 10th career win as he crossed the line to lead home an Osborne and Tomac podium behind him. With it, Webb moves to second in the championship, yet he remains 27 points down of Tomac.
“Kenny was really riding well at the beginning. We were putting in some heaters and then I started hitting my stride,” said Webb of his main event. “Not sure what happened but I ended up getting a decent lead… and it was cool to be able to enjoy that one a little bit more. Not too stressful.”
