The MXGP of China, which was set to take place May 1 in Shanghai, has been rescheduled, Youthstream announced today. According to the announcement, the change of date comes at the request of the Chinese National Federation CAMF and the local organizer due to “the terrible and exceptional weather conditions that occurred in the Shanghai region for the last four months with continuous heavy rain.”
“The MXGP of China in Shanghai will be a major event in the annual calendar of the People’s Republic of China and up until today the exceptional non-stop period of rain completely blocked the work of preparing the venue and the build-up of the track,” the statement reads. “The forecast for the upcoming weeks is the same and those conditions could bring a high risk of cancelling the event.”
The inaugural MXGP of China has been moved to September 14-15 and will now be round 18 of the championship. The MXGP of Hong Kong, the final round of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship, will take place a week later.
