1978

Bultaco ran this advertisement in Cycle News for David Bailey's victory at the 1978 AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships at Atlanta International Raceway. Bailey topped the 250 class aboard the only Bultaco Pursang in the event. Arizona's Chappy Blose won the 125 class on a Suzuki and Michigan's Mark Hinkle topped the 500 division aboard his Maico. 

Also on this day in 1978, Cycle News ran the first shots of Scott's new plastic boots, which debuted at the International Motorcycle Aftermarket Exhibition in Las Vegas. The funky red and blue boots had a suggested retail price of $180. 

1977

Suzuki's Roger DeCoster and Yamaha's Bob Hannah had an epic duel at the Cycle World USA Trans-AMA in St. Peters, Missouri. DeCoster got the overall with 2-1 scores to Hannah's 1-2. Third overall went to Marty Smith on the factory Honda.
