  • Jon Ames, Chaz Braden Updates [Update] - Supercross
Arlington, TX Arlington (Dallas)Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship

Last night at the 250SX East Region opener, a scary accident took place in the heat race when JMC Motorsports’ Jon Ames got pushed over the Tuff Blox and into another lane while battling for a transfer position. Ames collided with privateer Chaz Braden, who wrote on Instagram that he was “fourth gear pinned.” Both riders remained down for a while and were attended to by the Alpinestars Mobile Medical Unit.

Braden wrote on Instagram that he made it out with a “bum knee.”

“Well I made it through the night alive, took a straight head on hit in my heat race 4th gear pinned with another rider that had got pushed of the track. the bikes totaled but I’m going to make it out with a bum knee and that’s about it ready for the next one.”

At this time, we don’t have an official update on Ames, but Racer X’s Jason Weigandt wrote on Twitter last night that Ames may have sustained a broken leg. We’ll provide an update once more information is known.

PS I now hear it was Jon Ames who took the big hit in that 250SX heat race crash and had to take ride in Alpinestars Mule. Might have broken lower leg. Braden was the one who eventually got up. Neither raced LCQ

[Update: Tuesday, Feb. 20]

On Monday, Ames confirmed that he sustained a broken femur in the crash. Ames previously broke his femur at Red Bull Straight Rhythm last year.

We reached out to the team and they told us it was the same femur Ames broke at Straight Rhythm. Ames had surgery yesterday and is expected to miss 12 weeks.

Some of you may know what happened at the first round of SX, but here is my side of the story, I was in the heat race, racing with the top guys and the last corner the last lap another rider came to the inside of me and hit me off the track forcing me into the on coming lane I tried to get out of the way but everything just happened so fast so I had an accidental head on collision with another rider breaking me left femur, I am very sorry to the other rider who was just racing. 4 weeks on a supercross track I felt really comfortable with my progress and was only going to get better but this injury will not slow me down and you will hear from me very soon.
