Racer X’s Jason Weigandt reported yesterday that Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull KTM’s Jordon Smith would miss the opening round of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross due to a back injury sustained in a crash at the final round of Monster Energy Supercross in Las Vegas.
Smith made the decision after attempting to ride press day yesterday at Hangtown.
Jordon Smith still hurting from that big Vegas crash, tried to ride here at Hangtown press day but it didn't work. Out for the weekend

In his first year with TLD/Red Bull KTM, Smith was the surprise of the 250SX East Region, winning two races and leading the points heading into the finale. A heavy crash in Vegas cost him a chance at the title, and will rule him out for this weekend.
A season ago, while with GEICO Honda, Smith finished second in the first moto at Hangtown.
On his Instagram page last night, Smith said at this time he’s unsure when he’d be able to return.
"Unfortunately I have to inform everyone that I am going to have to sit out this weekends race ... my whole team and myself have done everything we can to rehab my back from my crash in Vegas. I tried to ride at press day today and it was still too painful! Thanks to the whole team and everyone for sticking behind me no matter what! Not sure when I'll be able to return yet but hopefully it will be sooner than later!"
