Encinitas, CA – This past week the motorsports community was shocked to find out that one of their beloved racers was diagnosed with leukemia. Destry Abbott has been a pillar in the industry for over twelve years and achieved 10 major championships and 7 ISDE gold medals. Currently he owns and operates DA8 Training where his weeks are filled with coaching riding schools, training athletes, and racing himself. His sole income of training is put on hold to focus on getting well.
Once this catastrophic news broke the Abbott family has had an outpouring of support from fans, friends, and family. However the current amount raised is only going to go so far. Destry’s insurance covers only a small portion of the care he needs. He will be at a specialized cancer treatment facility for 14 days on and 10 days off for the next five months and all payments are cash only. Thankfully he is seeing the best doctors right away and they are attacking the cancer with the maximum effort. But he needs all the assistance we can give him. May it be well wishes, prayers, or even some funds. Nothing is too small. Dusty is a guy who is always the first to help others, it's time the tables are turned and we help one of our own.
Road 2 Recovery has set up a funding page here. All the proceeds will be going directly to Destry Abbott’s Fight Against Cancer. With a current goal of raising $50,000 towards his bills and health care R2R is hoping to surpass that amount. R2Rfund.com is a dedicated funding site for motorcross/supercross and Action Sports athletes. In addition to the DA8 funding page, R2R is in collaboration with AP Designs to create a one of a kind helmet to be auction off in the near future. All the proceeds will be going to Destry as well.
Road 2 Recovery has been helping athletes in need for over 15 years. They now created a positive alternative to GoFundMe that works the same way for fundraising, but also holds key information regarding what to expect and ask when you are in need. A percentage of the same fees you pay with other fundraising sites goes towards supporting the nonprofit side of Road 2 Recovery and helps future professionals in need in action sports and motocross.
