Hello, silly season. The off-season carousel has fired up early. The first shoe to drop? Alex Martin. After two-plus seasons with CycleTrader.com/Rock River Yamaha, Martin has signed with Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha for the 2016 season. Alex will join his younger brother Jeremy on the team next year.
“We are excited to have Alex on board for the 2016 season,” Star Racing owner Bobby Regan said. “He will be a great addition to the team, and the dynamic created by having brothers on the same team will definitely bring a new level of camaraderie and competition to the team. We expect Alex to contend for championships in both supercross and motocross.”
In his fifth professional season, the elder Martin has enjoyed a banner year. In a loaded 250SX West Region in 2015, Martin podiumed twice—the first supercross podiums of his career. He’s carried the momentum over to Lucas Oil Pro Motocross, where he has two moto podiums and sits seventh in points after five rounds.
With Martin’s arrival, the team isn't expected to re-sign Anthony Rodriguez. In his two years with the team, the Venezuelan has shown promising speed but has been hampered with injuries. The team press release announced that Martin is expected to join his brother Jeremy, 2015 250SX West Region Champion Cooper Webb, and 2015 250SX Rookie of the Year Aaron Plessinger next season.
Talk about a loaded team.
