This year will mark the eleventh year the Southern Maryland Dirt Riders Club has awarded its Kevin Crine Memorial Privateer Award at the Budds Creek National in Southern Maryland. Over the years, the SMDR club has awarded more than $20,000 to deserving young men who dare to pursue motocross stardom and line up against the best in the world with little in the way of support. SMDR recognizes one 250 Class and one 450 Class privateer who are attempting to qualify during the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, and who do indeed make the field at the Budds Creek race, with $1,000 each in cash and a commemorative plaque. Our club members generously donate their own funds to this worthy cause because we want to give privateers a pat on the back and a little cash to help them achieve their goals. This gesture goes a long way to help motivate the racers, but also to keep the memory of local privateer hero, Kevin Crine, alive and well in the minds of his family and friends.
The appreciation the winning privateers show and the results they achieve following this award make this race at Budds Creek an unforgettable event each year.
Privateers, bring your A-game to Budds Creek. Introduce yourself to one of the SMDR club members. They’ll be flagging the event with a front row seat to watch you do your best, and perhaps with a little good fortune, you too could join the growing list of past recipients and walk away with some cool green cash.
