A week after capturing his first career MXGP moto win, France’s rookie sensation Romain Febvre delighted the home crowd winning the overall today at Round 8 of the FIM World Motocross Championship at Villars sous Ecot, France. A 2-1 score gave Febvre the overall ahead of Evgeny Bobryshev and Antonio Cairoli.
Max Nagl finished fourth overall and continues to lead the MXGP Class over Cairoli by nineteen points. Clement Desalle, who entered the weekend four points out of the lead, had a big crash in qualifying yesterday when he fell off the bike in mid-air attempting to scrub a tabletop and landed on his shoulder. He scored zero points today and now sits forty-one back of Nagl.
In his second GP attempt, Mike Alessi struggled once again and could only manage eighteenth overall.
Jeffery Herlings returned to the top step of the podium in MX2 after losing the last two GPs to Valentin Guillod. Herlings went 1-1 on the day to top Tim Gajser and defending MX2 Champion Jordi Tixier. Guillod was fifth overall.
American Thomas Covington pulled out of qualifying yesterday due to a rumored shoulder injury, according to MXVice.com. He did not race today.
