Ryan Villopoto will miss the MXGP of Spain this weekend while he recovers from a broken tailbone sustained at the MXGP of Trentino. This will be the second consecutive Grand Prix he’s missed with injury, after sitting out the MXGP of Europe at Valkenswaard on April 26.
Villopoto has been undergoing extensive therapy since suffering the injury, but has had trouble sitting and training. He is currently back with Aldon Baker on an intensive program trying to return.
This all but closes the door on a potential MXGP world championship, as Villopoto is currently 90 points back of leader Max Nagl. Villopoto has already squashed a potential return to Lucas Oil Pro Motocross in 2015.
“My goal is to be back racing as soon as possible, but to have a chance to fight for MXGP wins you must be 100 percent fit,” he said. “Together with the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team we did our best for a prompt recovery, but unfortunately we have to wait a few more days before we'll be back racing.”
