Once again, we're making you do the work! Every few weeks, we're going to dig into the archives for an old-school photo, and we'll ask you, our knowledgable (???) readers to identify something. Could be the rider, the bike, the track, the year or all four. It will be tough, so if your motocross knowledge only stretches back to Ryan Villopoto's days in the Lites class, you need not apply.
But if you're sharp, you can win a prize!
Before we get into this week's entry, we will reveal last week's answer and winner.
We asked: Name the riders in this photo?
The answer: L-R: Brad Lackey, Roger DeCoster, Kent Howerton, Danny LaPorte and Carl Berggren. Congrats to Dwight Davidson from Hillsboro, MO. Dwight won a Renthal water bottle, lanyard and assorted stickers and a t-shirt.
[Note: Carl was a top motocross rider from Sweden who emigrated to the USA and settled in Chicago in 1967. He quickly got involved in the local scene and was the #1 rider in the Illinois-Wisconsin-Indiana motocross scene. He also followed the Edison Dye Inter-AM series and finished fourth “American” behind Dick Burleson, Bryan Kenney and Sonny DeFeo. In 1971 he was hired by Torsten Hallman to run their Midwest warehouse. This picture was shot at Hallman headquarters before the RedBud Trans-AMA in 1976. Carl went on to off road racing and won classes in the Baja, Mint 400 and Gold medals in the ISDT.]
Our friends at Renthal will put a trophy on the line each time, and this week they're giving away a Renthal hat to whoever guesses (correctly) first.
Email your answer to Renthal to this address: email@example.com.
Include Racer X Trivia in the subject line, please. By the way, you can bench race all you want in the comments section below but we are not picking winners based on the comments—you must send the email to be eligible for a prize.
Now, this week's photo: Name the rider, the year and the track? In addition, name the guy with blonde hair in the background and what he contributed to the sport?
Send your answer to firstname.lastname@example.org and put Racer X Trivia in the subject line. Good luck!
