Defending MXGP Champion Antonio Cairoli has won the opening qualifying race of the season in Qatar. In his first race since Las Vegas SX in May of last year, and his first career GP, Ryan Villopoto finished eighth. Clement Desalle and Gautier Paulin would round out the podium.

American Thomas Covington lead Herlings until the final lap, before the two-time MX2 Champion pulled off the pass. Dylan Ferrandis rounded out the podium. Defending MX2 Champion Jordi Tixier finished eighth.

MXGP timed practice has concluded in Qatar. Clement Desalle was fastest with a 1:48.215. His teammate, Kevin Strijbos (1:48.435) was second with Gautier Paulin (1:48.444) third. Ryan Villopoto was seventh with a 1:48.904.

The opening round of the 2015 FIM World Motocross Championship from Qatar is underway. MXGP free practice has wrapped up and it was HRC Honda's Gautier Paulin taking the top spot with a 1:50.830. Shaun Simpson (1:51.332) followed with defending champion Antonio Cairoli (1:51.364) rounding out the podium. Ryan Villopoto, making his Grand Prix debut, finished eleventh with a 1:53.103.
