  • 9 Questions with Cole Seely

Corona, Calif. – The Monster Energy Supercross Series is about to hit the halfway point and it makes the second consecutive stop at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta this Saturday night. We decided to do a mid-season check-in with Troy Lee Designs rider Cole Seely to ask him a collection of questions both about his work on and off the track. See what he had to say.

Question: Officially past the halfway point in the season, how have things gone thus far? Are you meeting your expectations?
Cole Seely: Things are going good so far. Everything on the team side of things is really good and I am pretty happy with the way I am riding. So I would have to say yes I am meeting my expectations but I can still see myself improving.

Question: What has been the biggest learning curve since making the jump to racing the full 17-race season versus the shorter 8-race 250SX Class?
Cole Seely: The biggest learning curve has been adjusting my training during the season in order to not burn myself out for all the racing on the weekends.

Question: You’ve been working with Supercross Champ Jeff Ward for a little while now. How has his input into your training been helpful as you’ve made the jump to the big bike class?
Cole Seely: Jeff is really good with the mental side of things. He has helped me a lot learning how to stay calm and do what I need to do on race day and even practice days.

Question: We know you work hard to be in shape. What’s your go-to workout off the bike?
Cole Seely: My go to workout off the bike is riding some mountain bike trails on my Cannondale! It keeps things interesting.

Question: Do you listen to music before you head to the start line? If so, what gets you pumped up?
Cole Seely: No music for me, I like to get on the spin bike and just get in the zone.

Question: Taking it back to memory lane, what’s your first memory riding a motorcycle?
Cole Seely: A lot of us probably have similar stories but I remember getting a bike for Christmas when I was 4.

Question: Has Troy ever painted you a custom helmet, and if so, what did you have on it?
Cole Seely: My favorite helmet I had custom painted from TLD has to be in 2012 when I filled in on the factory Honda team and they painted me a replica Dale Earnhardt helmet.

Question: Talking style, if you had to choose, old school (e.g. Samoas, Superstars) or new school (e.g. Ultraboost) adidas kicks, which would you go with?
Cole Seely: A pair of adidas adi Ease are my favorite.

Question: And one final question. With half the series in the books, what are you looking forward to in the second half?
Cole Seely: It has been a solid year so far and I’m learning a lot. I’d have to say I’d really like to see more podium finishes in my future.

Practice and qualifying start around 12:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, February 28 and can be viewed at www.supercrosslive.com.
