The first three episodes of Behind the Dream have shown the relentless pursuit of victory that the world’s best riders share with one another as they chase their dream of becoming a champion. The dangers of the sport are obvious to the riders, their families, and their teams, but the necessity to toe the fine line of control and chaos is what can make or break a rider’s championship aspirations. Even in the face of adversity, riders have to show the ability to grow and continue their never-ending battle with confidence, which is the ultimate factor in determining how successful one of these athletes can be.

With thousands of young amateur racers chasing the same common goal of a career in Monster Energy Supercross, the sport revolves around family. Perhaps no relationship within the family is more important than that of a father and son. Whether former racers or men who simply have a dream for their son, fathers are more often than not the driving factor behind a rider’s path in the sport. The fourth episode of Behind the Dream takes a look into the dynamics of the father-son relationship and the creation of the Ricky Carmichael Road to Supercross program which provides a formalized advancement system as these riders transition to Monster Energy Supercross.

Brian Deegan has established himself as one of the most recognizable names in action sports. After a brief career in Monster Energy Supercross in which he was a relative unknown, Deegan went on to win the 125cc Main Event at the LA Coliseum on January 18, 1997, solidifying his name in history. Deegan later became one of the founding fathers of freestyle motocross, eventually rising to the top of the discipline and becoming an iconic figure thanks to his Metal Mulisha brand and its rebel lifestyle persona. Deegan has taken the next step in his career, by becoming a mentor to his son Haiden, who as aspirations to follow his father’s footsteps and one day race in Monster Energy Supercross.

The name Tomac has become synonymous in the world of two wheels. While son Eli is establishing quite an impressive racing résumé, his father John is a legend in the world of cycling. Whether on dirt or pavement, John made winning look easy. His training and determination played a major role in his ability to be arguably the most well rounded cyclist of all time. John has applied his success to the development of Eli’s career, helping his son become of the sport’s rising stars.

The Ricky Carmichael Road to Supercross is a formalized advancement program which will require every rider to hone their skills in AMSOIL Arenacross, earning required Road to supercross points and a supercross pro license endorsement, this system will bring the next generation of the world’s fastest amateur riders through AMSOIL Arenacross before they make their debut in Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship. AMSOIL Arenacross is known for producing some of the most competitive and compelling racing on the planet thanks to its intimate track layouts and highly technical obstacles. Thanks to its trademark elements, AMSOIL Arenacross also serves as an ideal avenue for up-and-coming riders to hone their technical skill set and learn the ropes of professional competition prior to making the move to Monster Energy Supercross. The Road to Supercross presents a set of rules and regulations that young riders must adhere to in order to pursue their journey to reach Monster Energy Supercross, and in its first official season of implementation, it has produced incredible results with several first-year pros already achieving success and proving they are part of the sport’s bright future.

As the Monster Energy Supercross season continues, Behind the Dream will put the spotlight on the storylines and individuals that will ultimately define the 2014 championship and the sport’s future.

For the first time ever, the entire Monster Energy Supercross season will air on FOX Sports.  Catch every Monster Energy Supercross race Saturday night on FOX Sports 1 (fourteen races) and FOX Sports 2 (three races) including next-day re-airs on FOX Sports 1.  In addition, the authenticated Fox Sports Go app will air each race at the same time it airs on FOX Sports 1 & FOX Sports 2.
