TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Fifteen-time AMA National Champion and motocross legend Ricky Carmichael unveiled this year's campuses, as well as an all-star cast of instructors, for the 2014 edition of Ricky Carmichael University (RCU). The exclusive rider camp returns to RedBud MX in Buchannan, Mich., this summer before visiting two new European locations in Sweden and Belgium.
RCU hits the famous RedBud National racetrack on July 2 as part of the "Great 4th of July Week of Moto." Amateur racers have the opportunity to ride and learn from The G.O.A.T, as well as instructors and former champions Jeff Emig and Jeff Stanton, just two days before putting their skills on to the test at Friday's amateur day. Riders can stick around for the weekend to see the fastest motocross racers in the world compete on the very same racetrack for Round 6 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.
"We're all excited that Ricky decided to bring the RCU back to Red Bud," explained Michigan native, tenured instructor and six-time national champion Jeff Stanton. "The weather didn't cooperate with us last year so we hope this year is better. The area is full of great riders so I'm looking forward to seeing the talent and working with them."
Following much success at its previous overseas events in the United Kingdom, RCU will visit two new venues in 2014. RCU Europe will roll into the famed Uddevalla circuit on July 19 before a two-day stop at the Genk track in Belgium July 23-24. The Belgian event will also mark the first time guest instructor and 10-time World Champion Stefan Everts will participate as a member of the esteemed faculty. Everts will be joined by Carmichael, Emig, Stanton and Jamie Dobb at the podium, bringing the overall championship tally amongst the group to 36.
"I was really happy when Ricky asked me to be a guest instructor at RCU," said Everts. "To put on such an incredible instructional with that caliber of teaching staff is an incredible contribution to the sport and its riders."
Instructors will teach students everything from proper body positioning, to utilizing organized drills focusing on flat turns, rhythm sections and improved braking techniques.
"I'm stoked to take RCU back to Red Bud and I can't wait to get back Europe and hit some new venues," stated Carmichael. "I am also honored to be working with Stefan and having him at our European RCUs. Overall we had a great time last year and I think this year will be even better."
