  • Track Change at Unadilla Announced

New Track Section at Unadilla Set to Challenge World’s Best

Built Ford Tough Unadilla National
Former National Champion Doug Henry to be Inducted into Walk of Fame

NEW BERLIN, N.Y. (August 2013) – In just over a week, the roar of four-strokes will once again fill the Unadilla Valley as the world’s fastest motocross racers converge on New Berlin for the annual Built Ford Tough Unadilla National on Saturday, August 10. The star-studded field of riders from around the globe will hit the home stretch of the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at Unadilla, coming off their final off weekend of the season for the 10th round of the 12-race schedule.

Since it began hosting events in 1969, Unadilla has been an institution for the sport of motocross in the United States, serving as one of the venues that vaulted the sport into popularity during its infancy. With a legacy that spans over four decades, Unadilla is one of the most iconic tracks not only in North America, but also throughout the world.

Next weekend’s annual round of the Pro Motocross season will serve as the 28th time the championship has visited Central New York and in an effort to provide better access for the spectators as well as a new challenge for the world’s best riders, track promoters Jill and Greg Robinson have made some additions for the big event. The first significant change in five years will serve a dual purpose, improving the fans’ overall experience and creating more excitement on the track.

“We installed a tunnel for our spectators to walk through, which will make getting around the facility easier while also offering new sightlines,” said Greg Robinson. “Additionally, we changed the layout of the track so that racers will now jump 80 feet back into the bottom of Gravity Cavity and up into a sweeping bowl turn that has been built into the spectator section of the Cavity. The racing action now comes right into the heart of the Gravity Cavity spectator area, which will be a unique experience for everyone.”

Another change this season at Unadilla is new event title sponsor Built Ford Tough. As the championship’s newest top-tier sponsor, Built Ford Tough is an exciting addition to the event and for the Robinson family.

“We are looking forward to having the support of Ford for our event,” said Jill Robinson. “It’s obvious how strong a presence they have throughout the motorsports world and we can’t wait to see what they will bring to the event.”

In addition to the on-track excitement next weekend, Unadilla will also welcome its newest member to its prestigious Walk of Fame. With legends like Roger DeCoster, Bob Hannah, Ricky Johnson, Jeff Ward, and more already a part of the Walk of Fame, Unadilla is proud to announce Doug Henry as its latest addition. The 1998 Pro Motocross Champion is known for his relentless pursuit of success, trademarked by his never-give-up mentality that produced some of the sport’s most memorable moments. Henry will be honored at the Built Ford Tough Unadilla National prior to the first gate drop.

Festivities for the Built Ford Tough Unadilla National begin with practice and qualifying 8:30 a.m. Opening ceremonies kick off at 12:30 p.m., with motos scheduled for 1 p.m.

Additional information about Unadilla can be found at http://www.unadillamx.com and the official Event Page. Also “like” the Unadilla Facebook page.

Tickets for the event can be purchased ONLINE in advance and at the track on race day.
