ONE Industries Riders SLC Report
(San Diego, CA) – With championships on the line, the stage was set for a night of great racing in Salt Lake City, UT. Beautiful sunny weather welcomed the racers and fans alike to the 16th Round of the 2013 AMA Supercross series. The course inside Rice-Eccles Stadium challenged the riders right off the gate with the shortest start they’ve seen all season; there were plenty of tight corners along the track, and a difficult whoops section.
ONE Industries and Rockstar Energy Racing’s Jason Anderson had a great start to his night claiming the holeshot in the second heat race of the 250 West class. Anderson battled hard with Malcom Stewart for the entirety of the six-lap heat race, finishing a close second. In the Main event, Anderson got a great start in third as the field rounded the first few corners. Heading in to lap two, Anderson got by Tomac and then Osborne for the lead. From that point on it was all Jason Anderson, who got the monkey off of his back and claimed his first career Supercross win. This win gives Anderson a huge confidence boost heading into Vegas, just eleven points below Seely, who sits in third.
Anderson’s ONE Industries and Rockstar Energy Racing’s teammate Davi Millsaps looked really fast all day, setting the fastest lap time in practice. In his heat race, which also included Villopoto and Barcia, Millsaps’ turned in a dominant performance; he charged his way through the whoops and on to his eleventh heat race win of the season. Millsaps started the 450 Main event just outside the top five, but by lap three he had reeled in and passed a few riders, and was sitting in second behind Villopoto. In order to send the championship battle to Las Vegas, Millsaps had to finish in front of Villopoto. Millsaps gave it everything he had, closing the gap as they clicked through each new lap; by the final lap, less than one second separated the two. It was a dramatic finish that had everyone on the edge of their seats; unfortunately Millsaps ran out of time and finished second. The hunt for the #1 plate may be over, but the battle for second is still red hot with Millsaps currently sitting in second, three points ahead of Dungey.
ONE Industries and JGR Toyota Yamaha rider Justin Brayton had another solid night; he finished sixth overall in the 450 Main event.
The series rolls in to Las Vegas next weekend for the 2013 AMA Supercross season finale. ONE Industries riders’ Davi Millsaps, Jason Anderson, and Blake Wharton are all positioned to take home a top three overall finish in their classes.
