BTO Sports KTM Race Report
Anaheim, CA – The BTO Sports – KTM team rolled in to Anaheim for the third and final time this season as Round 5 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series took over Angels Stadium Saturday for a wild night of racing.
After his impressive ride last week, team rider Matt Goerke came in to A3 high on confidence. He would ride strong in practice, attacking the technical Anaheim track to qualify in the 14th spot. In the heat race, Matt would use his Hinson Racing clutch to power out of the gate strong. He would charge hard, finishing 9th to gain a spot in the main. As the gate dropped for the main event, Matt was all business. He would position himself inside the top ten until mid race, when an aggressive move by Ryan Villopoto punched a hole in Matt’s side case, ending his forward momentum. With Engine Ice keeping the engine cool, Matt would soldier on and finish 13th.
Les Smith had a tough night with the technical Anaheim track. After qualifying 25th, Les would come out in the heat race swinging, but would miss a transfer spot to the main by one spot. After a great start in the LCQ, Les would be caught up in a major pile-up in the second turn of the first lap that would end his chances of making the main. Look for Les to bounce back in San Diego next week and be back in the main event.“Matt is riding well and I am happy with his ride tonight even with the unfortunate circumstances” said team owner Forrest Butler. “We will regroup and come back strong next week in San Diego.”
