MXHeaven Freestone Report
MXHeaven Riders and the Texas heat do not mix well
It proved to be tough for two pro guys from Sweden and one from Russia to overcome the heat and humidity of Freestone County Raceway on their 450 Hondas.
As opposed to qualifying in Hangtown the previous week, where the best times were set early in the first session, in Texas the opposite turned out to be true. The MXHeaven riders were all in the top ten in the first session, but failed to improve much on their lap times in the second, which turned out to be the deciding session.
When it was all said and done, Robert Lind qualified for the race, but both Rickard Sandberg and Serge Astaykin missed out with 0.2 and 0.5 seconds respectively and neither one of them managed to qualify through the LCQ, the Last Chance Qualifier.
For the first race, Robert was involved in a pile up on the first lap, but once he got going, he attempted to ride smoothly with the intent of making it to the finish, but the heat overwhelmed him at the end and he was forced to back off, ending up 29th at the finish.
For the second race Robert felt well hydrated and with a good start around the mid twenties, he was ready to move ahead. But it took only 6 laps until he experienced blurry vision and made the wise decision to stop rather than to risk a crash or total collapse.
Still Robert was quite pleased with his day, it certainly added a new experience to his many years as a pro in Europe.
The team is now setting it’s goal on the AMA National at Thunder Valley near Lakewood, CO. where the “mile high” altitude will add yet another new challenge for the MXHeaven riders.
