  • Rock River Yamaha/Moto Star Race Report

Santa Barbara, CA - The 41st annual Hangtown Classic saw the Rock River Yamaha/Moto Star crew show up for the opener in what was a weekend full of headlines throughout the industry and a great way to kick off the AMA Nationals season.

Ryan "Ryno" Hughes was back in action on the ultra-potent YZF450 with fans lining up to get a peek at him and his ride. Ryno looked great as the day started and showed he can still throw down enough speed to be in the mix while qualifying 18th. Hughes used his Ryno Power conditioning and training he teaches day to day to make it in the show. Unfortunately plenty of other  riders were left scratching their heads why they did not qualify. Ryan had a get off early in the 1st moto which sent him back to the pits and where he called it a day but all our hats are off to him for showing up and qualifying at the ripe age of 39.

Ben LaMay was happy to be back outdoors and showed some great speed on his YZF450 qualifying 19th. Putting power to the ground with his Moto Star branding and a Rock River Powersports program that is top notch, LaMay earned valuable championship points with his top twenty 1st moto and looks to build on that as he sets his sights on Freestone!

Joey Peters was on hand running a Rock River Yamaha/Moto Star backed YZ250F and looked great in practice and had no problem making it into the starting line-up qualifying in the top of his group. Peters finished right outside of the top twenty for the day but showed the speed that looks to having him finding some great finishes later this season!

Drew Yenerich also made his first return to pro racing for the first time in a year and a half. He looked healthy and fast as he battled in the qualifier to get a shot to race the 2 enduring motos. Unfortunately, Drew did not qualify but he battled hard and looked healthy again. Look for Drew to be battling for a good spot next weekend in Freestone as he adjusts to his return in the racing circuit.

Last, but not least, Amanda Maheu made her WMX pro debut at the ripe young age of 16 and battled hard. She ran well for her first ever pro race and ended placing 7th in the second moto. Amanda showed signs of blazing speed and superb technique so look for her to be running up front next weekend aboard her powerful YZ250F.
